My boyfriend thinks i'm cheating

I started a relationship with a guy a few weeks ago. He's so sweet and treats me really well and I could never have imagined how much he loves me. There is absolutely nothing to complain about in our relationship and it is truly perfect.

But before we started dating there was a guy who liked me and asked me out. I told him I didn't like him and didn't want a relationship with him. Still he likes me even though I'm in another relationship. Yesterday I posted a picture of myself and this guy commented "bae" on it. My boyfriend saw that and now thinks I'm a cheater. I could never do such a thing to him because he's literally the best person in my life.

My boyfriend said that seeing that hurt him a lot and he doesn't believe me either. He's not even talking to me like he used to. He said he needs some time to figure things out and he's still shocked by this. I don't know what I should do now and I don't want to lose him. I didn't cheat on him and I feel so bad about myself right now.

I had to look up what bae meant and the common inference was that it's romantic but less commonly used for friendships so I understand both points of view.

Online things are really easy to misinterpret and it's a new relationship so maybe he feels a lil insecure?

I would give him some time to cool off or say something like I'm respecting your space but when you're ready to talk, I'm more than happy to communicate and answer any questions you might have for me.

Because I care about you a lot and this was not the impression I wanted to give you, that our relationship isn't special to me.

In the meantime you've tried to tell your side of things so don't feel bad, these things happen. Try and do something relaxing to take your mind of it :)

@zayina

in a new relationship and you post a photo with another guy and that comment it would lead to confusion or second guessing by many people.

Most actions we do for a reason have you thought about why your reason for posting? Maybe you need to know your motivation first, before trying to convince BF it was a mistake.

You said you did not like the other guy that way, but it seems like you enjoy he likes you and maybe you wanted to keep him interested as a backup?   it seems early to post to make BF jealous and that generally backfires and does not make them want to be more for you.

@toughTiger6481 she said she posted a picture of herself, though, and then the guy left a comment. She did not post a photo with the guy.

@zayina not believing your word and refusing to even hear you out is a huge red flag. Why would people even start a relationship if they're not willing to trust the other person or at least hear them out? If you've already told him what happened and he still refuses to believe you, what more proof can you give? I'd really be questioning where this luck of trust comes from and if this a good premise to start building a relationship on.

You can't control who tries to hit on you, you are only responsible for how you answer. The risk that this happens again and he will accuse you again is there. It's a very awful thing what he's accusing you of, and if he really thinks that low of you (and for something as trivial as a guy's comment you had no control over) I would take it very seriously.

It appears to me he is insecure. I see that as his problem not yours. I don't see it as your responsibility to prove you didn't cheat. You simply tell him the truth and he either accepts it or he doesn't.
