Needing to be alone in hard times, negative or normal?
Hey everyone.
I’m here for a relationship topic but I want to really just get objective answers from everyone.
Is it normal that my partner needs alone time when he’s going through something hard? Something irrelevant to me. I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t lean back on your partner. I don’t want to start faulting myself because I know I’m a supportive and empathetic partner. Is it just a him thing? Do I need to stop seeing it as a negative thing? Or is it actually a negative thing?
I don’t know.i know I don’t have the right to get mad at him for this. I’m just so just concerned, am I not providing the space he needs. Am I just a bad partner?
What do you guys think about people not leaning back on their partners heavily when they’re in a rough spot?
We’re in a long distance relationship and throughout his rough patch I’ve just been there consistently and just kept myself mellow in the aim of keeping him mellow too.
This is one of the dialogues we had about this, very briefly. But idk I think my own attachment style is making me worry that his is different.
Me: I’m sorry if I haven’t been there for you in the way that you’ve needed my love.
Him: You've done more than enough. I've been the one not holding it down for us

I feel it is completely normal to take space or work some things out by yourself.
This is not a reflection on a partner. It is harder in a long distance as sharing and talking is key. Giving time and space is supporting their needs and often is very helpful.
@squirrel4364 He likes you alot by his response. Guys don't want to open up because when he does, his partner tells their friends and posts his story online.
But it's clear he values you, and appreciates you. We learn to solve our problems alone, but still it is great to feel loved in those times.
