Partner losing feelings

We had a talk over the phone and he was numbed out to all my tears, even directly saying he feels empty. He said he’s been losing feelings. And yet he insists he still loves me and will always love me.

He tried comforting my by saying it’ll be okay. That it’s not over yet, we’ll talk once he gets back from his trip. If anything ends, we’ll still stay in contact.

I feel like my whole life is falling apart. He is my whole world, the only person I feel truly safe with. He was my first for everything, and I imagined he’d be the last. I still want him to be the last. Even if things end. I promised so much to him and he did to me. I still want to keep my promises of designing him a tower in the woods, where he can play piano, paint and write his books. The promise of never leaving his corner. Of always being there, like before, to help him climb out of his depressive state.

I don’t think anyone could compare to him. And it would never be fair for me to even search for a second relationship. I would always think of him instead.

I want to try everything before we end things for good. I want to suggest relationship counseling, to have him try something new with me. I don’t want to give up yet. What more can I do besides giving up?

I think by the time a partner says aloud that they are losing feelings....... that is often after the fact the feelings may be gone. They often try to save things and work on it until it becomes clear that they have no interest in saving anything.

People can love you as a person or friend but not be IN love with you.  Trying everything after the fact is a big uphill battle.

People's feelings do not turn on and off like a light switch would you want them to fake it and not be happy.  Most will find another relationship there is no need to compare to what was in the past but examine and build your new things on a new foundation.
