Programs neglects to tell me changes (lunch plans changes or closures)

So I'm going to talk about three times that the day-program neglected to tell me plans changed.   I would included a 4th story but that didn't really have anything happening really in it since I could just get back into Dad's car)

Background:

So from 2013-March 2020 I attended a program over In Achilles (code name).  The program was in a former entertainment room for the residents of the apartment building.   From before I went to the program until I think 2017 that we didn't have an intercom system- so that meant that we had to set up a sandwich board w/ a bell down in the lobby infront of the 2nd set of the doors you need a key to get into and when someone rings the bell-someone who is in the room upstairs had to go downstairs to get the door.    This was replaced in 2018 with an actually intercom for us.   Another thing to know is because the program is an an apartment complex  it means it sometimes had to turn the water off.

Feb 2014: Water Pipe busted

So  on Monday in February I didn't go to the day-program due to frost bite weather (have to take bus most days). Because of that I was unaware that the day program had water pipe burst in the new office for the leaders.

So I go to Achilles (code name for the town) not aware about the burst  water pipe.  I get to the building and am really confused about what's going on since there's no sandwhich board with the doorbell.  I look up a little ways on the actual door there and I see a sign about the program being closed.   I didn't know what to do at the time since I had never been taught what to do about if something changed.  So I was having a melt down about what was going on.  But I was able to figure out that I should get on the bus back to my town and go home.   I got back on the bus (still upset) and I stopped at the church to call the house to inform Mom I was coming home because there was no (program) at the program that day. Then I went home.    But I was in a very terribable state because I wasn't used to changes in routine especially not such a big one like this

This was the first of 2 times I tried to get them to set up a phone tree  or an email alterative system and I even said I would be in charge of it if the Peer volunteer leaders (As the leaders are called)  didn't want to do it.

2016 -Field Trip Lunch Mess

(I have shared this story before, on a different thread but I can repeat it)

Background:

So in 2016 I was doing a different program on Tuesdays and Thursdays so I wasn't going to this other program on Thursdays like I normally do.  So it's one of the reasons I didn't get the message about lunch changes.

Story

So my day program was planning a trip to the Royal Museum in my province.  Due to me being in the other program  they had it on a Monday so I could go as well.   In the month  before the trip the  "Peer Volunteers" said "they're were going  to make lunch" for the people going in on the field trip.  But about I think 3 weeks  before the field trip the Peer Volunteers  realized they had to talk to someone (a higher up related to program)  on the same day as the field trip  but at the time,  they said they "still would deal with lunch" for the field trip.

So I show up on Field Trip Monday I look around wondering where the lunch was.  One of the leaders "Briar" rudely told me "we told you to bring your own lunch".    I  would learn during the day that they ONLY told people that starting the week before on the Wednesday (Which I didn't normally go too) and the Thursday (when i was at the other thing).     I would have been in a pretty big pickle had I not have the lucky chance of having a bank card at the time.  I could buy lunch with the bank  card.

If I hadn't had it-I wouldn't have eaten for something like 8 hours between 8am and 4pm due to the program's peer volunteers not informing people about having to bring food from home or buy something there.

Monday March 2018-March Break Madness

Background:

Only five  things you need to know for this story.  First thing is that in 2016 the day-program started having pot luck lunches for things like - Thanksgiving, Christmas, March Break, Easter (always the week before except of March Break)-and  I would bring a cake Mom made for me.  Second thing at the time,  I was  taking the coffee  grinds from the coffee urn, home so Dad could put it in the compost bin to use as stuff for the compost/fertilizer in the spring.   third  My Mom and I just got a new  Family doctor due to issues with the then-previous Family Doctor cancelling much-need appointments at last minute- so on the day in question, my parents were going to get some kind of shot from that doctor.  Fourth- there was construction in the road at the time, so it turned a former 2 lane street into a 6 lane street I think.  It meant that Dad had to go around the building to get out.  Last thing- There's a grocery store next to the apartment building-the program participants sometimes go there to get ingredients for the lunch when it wasn't pot-luck day and our oven was working properly-totally another story)

Story:

So the story goes like this my parents and I have the plan of I would go on Monday to the program and they're going to go get shots in the doctor's office.  They would pick me up after the program and we would go see a movie.  I get out of the car with the cake, the bag with the containers for coffee grinds AND my backpack with my water bottle.   I go to the intercom and just as I'm about to use it I notice a sign saying the program's name on it and its being cancelled due to the water being shut off.

Dad is probably chit-chatting with Mom as he's driving off, not noticing either me exiting the building or trying to run after the car trying to catch their attention. I can't catch up very well so they have gone around the building.  I'm the only one with a cell phone (borrowed from Mom) but that's not good when I can't remember the doctor's name, or the clinic's name-all I could remember is the two streets it was located at.  My cell phone didn't have wi-fi so I couldn't google it.  I was very upset because I didn't know what to do.

I went to the grocery store to put my cake and the bag with the coffee grind containers  in it on the stairs going up to the 2nd level.  I was really upset when a manager came down and when she asked me what the problem was she told me to go to the library.  I didn't know where the town's library was. (I just said "I couldn't carry a cake there!"   So she just left me even more then I already was.   One of her co-managers came and asked me why I was upset and he used his phone to look up clinics in the area of the two streets I could remember I think my first two attempts didn't go anywhere.

So when i tried the next number  I didn't get the  the clinic either but what I *did* get was nice receptionist who realized where I was trying to call too and said that she would call the clinic for me, and have someone tell my parents over there at that clinic that Dad needed to come and get me or something like that because my program was closed.

I was in such a state of upset that I forgot to mention to pass along the message to my Dad, that I was at the Grocery Store and *not* at the apartment building.   So after Dad got the message he went back to the apartment building and didn't see me, but when he came through the grocery-store parking lot again and saw me outside with everything he had dropped me off with.

I did send the Peer Leaders an email later asking about why I couldn't have been informed prior to when I got there about the program being closed.  They claimed they're sorry.  But what they didn't  do was communicate clearly about the catch-up Potluck so it resulted in us having to half-pot lucks half on the Thursday, and then the other half like me who didn't know to bring the food on the Thursday, brought it on Monday.

@Disneywoman

OOh yes, it is frustrating when things don't go according to plan. And then if no one tells you, it is even more annoying.

I suspect you might be someone who likes routine and is upset by change. I think we are all a bit affected in that way.

Someone on here has a really good saying about plans that I can't quite remember. Something about we need plans, but need to accept that plans can and will go awry, so we need to be flexible enough to be ready to adapt.

But yes, I totally know that experience of arriving at a place and finding a note to say it is closed. Its exasperating. But also a good opportunity to practice some calming techniques.

@Clio9876  Yeah I expect routines and when I don't have a smart phone it's not like they can text me to tell me the program's was closed. Even in the last example,  I had a boring cell phone which I was borrowing from Mom.
