Relationship Guilt

Why do I let my husband guilt me into feeling bad about myself or when I accidentally do something wrong? I can’t even sit down and relax w/o him saying he always has something to do and doesn’t like to sit down with me. He made me feel incredibly guilty this morning for accidentally sleeping in 30 minutes more than him and he had to take care of all our pets both inside and out.

@Rumorhasit67,

did you feel guilty by yourself or was it something he said that made you feel guilty?

No, he made a very big deal out of pointing out that he fed everyone already and that “he could finally eat.”

@Rumorhasit67

It is a conditioned response to feel guilty ........he no longer has to say much maybe just a look or something right?    This shows how petty he is.

You want to alleviate the guilt own it ..do not let actions or sneers get to you.  Own it say "boy it was great to sleep in a bit thanks for being a sport"      what can he say back?

do not give him an opening make everything seem just as you planned.

@Rumorhasit67 when you're in love (and you have, or must have been at some point) it's easy for the other person to manipulate you. A person who truly loves and cares for you shouldn't blame you for everything and make you feel guilty all the time. If there really is a problem, he should have an honest conversation about it, but not a judgemental one, more like a "let's try to solve this together". But it's not what's happening, and if you reached out to us, it means you know deep down that something's wrong. This is not what a healthy marriage feels like. If you don't confront him about it, if you don't stand your ground and be ready to leave if he refuses to listen to your perspective, things can only get worse and take a huge toll on you. You matter. There's much more in life for you than an unhealthy marriage.
