Relationship anxiety? Terrified my thoughts are real
Hi, I’ve been struggling with something that honestly came out of nowhere, and I’m hoping someone can relate.
My partner and I have been together since high school. Things weren’t perfect back then — we both had a lot of growing up to do — but over the years, we’ve worked through it and are honestly in the healthiest place we’ve ever been. That’s why all of this has been so confusing.
One day, out of nowhere, it felt like a mental fog just hit me. I started overthinking everything. I’d get these random anxious thoughts about my relationship — like, “What if I don’t love him the same way?” or “What if I want to be with someone else?” Even though I don’t actually want that, the thoughts feel so real in the moment that they scare me.
Sometimes I even get this weird grossed-out feeling toward my partner, or I suddenly feel turned off — and then I spiral, wondering if it means something is wrong. I know I love him, but these thoughts and reactions make me feel like I don’t trust my own mind anymore.
I don’t feel like I’m constantly spiraling the way I was at first, but it still feels heavy and confusing — like I’m scared of what my own brain might come up with next. I think it might be anxiety-related, but I just want to know if anyone’s experienced something similar and gotten through it.

When we are with someone for a long time from a young age... people are growing and changing sometimes at same time and direction sometimes one is ahead of the other.
A thought of what if ? or do I feel the same way? maybe a time in growth we have moments of questioning ourselves etc. In my opinion completely normal. It is often when we are in a time of change the brain fog / and thoughts can occur.
Here is the good news .......it keeps us choosing our partners again and again not just assuming things are fine and on autopilot.
