Self Reflection

My partner brought up to me that I had been so emotionally draining because of my own stress and depression that it’s caused her to feel emotionally detached from me. I’m here to change myself and be the man that she fell in love with. I’m committed to this change because the darkness has controlled my emotions to where I’m negative and irritated more than usual prior to therapy. It’s a road to travel but I’m dedicated to following it to keep my family and my relationship. I really hope my efforts through this process will show her I will fix anything I need to and go through whatever needed with her at the altar with me…if she’s emotionally detached, is it over?

@kyarismalls

depends on how detached she is ...

if this is something that she has vocalized over and over and now you are prepared to change maybe too late  ... if she just told you ... then maybe  it has not gotten so deep

for many the first time bringing something up is a warning sign ... that they are continuing down the path to leave ... too many ignore until it is too late.

Trying to change yourself while dealing with depression is not easy. But the fact you're willing to do it for her means alot and she should appreciate it, not many people would do that. Maybe it's not over, but I think it's for the best if you talk to her and explain that you're trying to change. If she really loves you she'll understand and be patient with you and of course support you. I hope things turn out good for both of you!

I’m in the same boat as you right now, except my partner went and cheated on me… I can’t say it gets better for the relationship. But I truly hope it gets better for you and your future!

I am sorry to hear that you and your partner are both going through this difficult phase. Depression can be mentally exhausting for you, as well as for her - although it is important to say that none of this is your 'fault' or something you can just 'fix'. Healing from depression is, as you mention, a journey and from what you've shared, it sounds like you are already doing all you can to walk this path to getting better.
Emotional detachment can sometimes be a defense mechanism to protect from an emotional overload. Do you think this might be the case? Would it be possible to maybe have activities that you both enjoy individually worked into your schedules so that she gets a bit of emotional space to recharge, without needing to detach while she is with you? Perhaps it might be worth bringing up at your next therapy session, to see if they might have other suggestions to offer, since they might be working with other couples walking this path.
