Should I feel needed?
My boyfriend is incredible and I'm incredibly so so thankful for him and I love him so much. Recently I've noticed though that I don't necessarily feel needed. He tells me about stuff that frustrates him and vice versa and we're always there to reassure each other, but the only time he actually asked for my help was when he was anxious anr frustrated at himself at work (we work together as well, we work together well) due to tech issues that were affecting customers and he asked for a hug while he was overwhelmed. I reassured him and made sure he felt okay and assisted with the customers where I could (we work at an escape room and a camera went down) until he felt better and the customers were taken care of. They had a good time and their experience wasn't taken from but my boyfriend was really worried and I'm glad I was at least able to help.
I'm torn because I don't really feel needed, he declines my help a lot but also he has the right to do so. I love his help if he offers most of the time but I feel unjustified in asking him to do the same.
Codependency isn't necessarily healthy and being hurt he doesn't "need" me to be okay is not fair. I have the emotion and I know I'm allowed to feel it but that doesn't mean I can act on it, I'm fully aware of this and I'm in no way going to confront him especially about this.
I tend to jump into trying to explain things and I don't want to do that to him right now nor do i know how to express my confusing thoughts so I'm coming here
Idk how to end this, those are my thoughts, help
@linvi
I think it is OK and very common to want to feel needed.
Even if small items being able to help and such makes me feel good and appreciated ... when my partner never wants or asks for my help i feel alone and like i do not matter makes me crazy as sometimes he does not get things finished or done correctly simply because he does not ask for help.
Now in return i do NOT want his help either.... but he gets all upset ... told him two way street so think about it. he now asks for help on simple things to appease me.
