Currently 36 weeks pregnant and really struggling with my husband being there for me the way I need him to. I’m super open with communication and make things very clear, yet my husband still doesn’t get how to be there for me. I genuinely don’t know what to do, he is a great guy and means well but I feel so alone during pregnancy emotionally and mentally. Help

@tilly11

           It is very hard when we are going thru things like pregnancy or other health things and feel alone. You say you are open with communication about what you want or need.  Are you getting  clear communication back?        Is he trying in his own way but not like you want or expected ?

I have had instances where I felt clear but was assuming whomever i was speaking to were seeing it from my view.

He isn’t doing it in his own way. It’s going over his head. I feel so defeated.

@tilly11 it sounds like you're doing your part in trying to guide him through this, so at this point, all that's left is figuring out if he's not willing to work on certain things or if he just don't get what you mean despite your efforts. To clear things up, you can try to give him feedback and say that you still feel like some things are not how they should be, and how does he feel about that. If it still doesn't work, couple therapy is also an option. You're at a very delicate point of your life and your relationship, this could be a "make it or break it" moment, so it's important that he also puts in an effort to work things out. With a baby on the way, things will get even more difficult. It's important to take care of this before things get worse. Don't back down and don't downplay or ignore your own needs in favour of preserving "peace" in the relationship: in the long run, whatever is not addressed always turns out to be a bigger problem later.

I completely agree and told him we really need couples therapy but he says we cannot afford it at this time. We are the type to fight for each other always but this has been so difficult and it doesn’t seem to have any end in sight and I don’t feel like I can handle this anymore. This is all too much.
