partner is struggling

I came here to get some advice because honestly I feel really stressed and sad. My partner has been struggling with mental health issues (maybe a little before summer began) and I need advice. I understand that their goal everyday is to just make it to the next and they shouldn’t have to worry about a relationship on top of all that but I asked them if they wanted to break up when this all started and they told me no. I feel selfish because I have some bare minimum things that aren’t being met (Goodmorning and goodnight + tiny amount of affection) I try to plan hangouts or “dates” but it always seems like theyre avoiding it, the one hangout they accepted they asked to leave an hour in. They can hangout with their friends (which is usually why they decline hangouts) just fine but when it comes to me it seems so hard. I think maybe this summer we’ve seen eachother 2-3 times. Most days we only have 1-2 short 5 minute convos, I try to engage more to show them I’m there but usually I’m left on delivered for 5+ hours. I don’t know if this is true or not because this is just my hunch but I also think during the times I’m in delivered their talking to their other friends.

I just feel so selfish for wanting my old partner back but I know she isn’t atleast for awhile, but I also feel selfish because I want so much more then they can give me right now. I know I’m just overthinking but it makes me wonder if they said no to breaking up just to protect my feelings or something. I feel bad because when I was struggling they stayed with me and tried to help me out of it but I still did what I could for our relationship.

(I also feel as if I can’t talk about it to them because when I found out they were struggling they also told me that my constant issues with them was causing them more stress and they couldn’t do much because they were struggling)

You are not selfish to want more or missing what used to be. I get what you are saying, I put up with my spouse through a tough time because they had been there for me when I was struggling.   The difference is I kept giving to relationship no matter how down I was.

I am all for someone getting help or overcoming what is stressing them out...... but the wait and see option solves Nothing.   Have you suggested couple's therapy?   Is she seeking help or therapy etc?

Life does Not stand still until we feel better or we are ready.... Relationships do not wait either. we had decades together all thrown away because they would not open up about what they were going through.

My spouse actually lost a very stressful job and all at once is better........ felt cool all is great again ... Nope they ignored me shut down all attempts to talk or hang out was short with me in every way.   The damage is done....... I will not trust them again ..... I do not share with them and have lost connection on many levels.

Maybe if they told me how they felt when it was happening, but they shut me out. NOW I am supposed to be all is great?       It may seem harsh, but you will regret waiting and doing all you can to help/ fix or cheer up and be taken for granted.

It is not about stressing a partner out but letting them know when they are ready to come around you may have decided it is too late.
