Husband hits our dog and doesn't respect my feelings

My husband and I have been having problems and he doesn't seem really interested in fixing them. He even said ,"what will talking about things help?" when I mentioned therepy. He basically doesn't respect my feelings because he says my feelings are irrational and so he doesn't feel he should care. He did finally agree to therapy though I do not think he will take it seriously. Anyway, we have a dog that nips when she gets upset. She has separation anxiety and when I leave for work she barks and will nip at my feet. Well, she nipped at my husband when he tried to shoo her away from me. He lost his temper and beat the heck out of her causing her to pee all over herself and the floor. It's not the first time he has done this. It doesn't stop her from nipping. I told him I didn't want him hitting her anymore. I said we could find another way and to round up everything he said, he had no intentions on stopping. I have no intentions on allowing it. Besides our relationship issues this is causing me to not want therapy and just be done with him. We have been married less than a year, but have been together 8. I don't know if therapy will work because he is really stubborn and doesn't seem like he will try to change. I don't think he wants to change and that's the problem. He feels he is doing nothing wrong....with the dog or our relationship.

I guess I would like to know other people's opinion from the outside looking in.

@Kokah2020 Hey there. It sounds like he doesn't respect what you think and that therapy for him will never be serious. He sounds like he doesn't care about you and your dog. It seems scary how easy he is able to just hit a living creature and feel no remorse to the point he is okay with repeating this action. It sounds like even you are done with the situation. I would consider your safety as a priority and understand that this man doesn't seem to show you the love that a person deserves. But I can get that it can be hard to leave someone like this. If he can lose his temper and hit the dog, what stops him from losing his temper and hitting you?

When I came home from work this morning he did say that he was wrong for everything he did last night and would talk more on the subject when he gets home. We have opposite schedules. When I come home he is leaving for work. We will see if he continues this discussion. His track record is avoidance of uncomfortable discussions.

I think you should be mindful of his record compared to how he has been behaving. You know what he is like and what he has been saying all this time. Just be careful. Many abusers apologize and continue their behaviors.

@Kokah2020,

has he said before in the past about other situations that he was wrong?
