Making someone seek help
I've been talking to someone only online for half a year and he is sometimes mentioning how he wants to die, even mentioned doing that next year and I have told him it'd be better to consult a doctor as one would for any physical illness, maybe have a check up.
However, he never answers to the texts when I recommend him something. He just says something unrelated or ignores them.
I'm really scared he'll go on with the plan in the end. He also never says what's wrong. I asked if courses stress him or something else but no answer and I don't know how to handle the situation.
What's more, he considers me basically his gf, which was a very big mistake from my part, even though I enjoy being with him, I know it cannot work out as I have a bunch of my own problems and we are from different continents so such a relationship would require a lot of money and one of us leaving their regular life to move. That being said, we aren't that close and we almost never call.
I'd like to help him without getting closer to him, as I will have to cut contact with him in the end. But I'm also afraid me cutting contact will make his issues worse. I'd like him to seek help before I break up with him.
Any advice would be appreciated.
@brightOrangegirl It seems to me the answer depends on local laws and services in the place where he lives. You might be able to find specific information if you search the Internet. Maybe there's a suicide helpline where he lives, and you could call it yourself to ask what your options are.
For example, here in the UK our national suicide helpline is run by the charity Samaritans, and they are sometimes willing to call someone to offer support, so that he would not have to make the call himself. In a crisis, if life is at risk, then police and health services here can force someone who has a mental health problem to have an assessment and treatment.
But other places are not the same. In some places, attempting suicide is even a criminal matter. Reporting him to the authorities in any of those places might not have such a good outcome.
