My mom and husband hate each other and it’s affecting our relatuonship
My husband and my mother have never gotten along. They both have narcissistic tendencies and have controlling, stubborn personalities. A week and a half ago we were all on vacation and they got into a huge argument with screaming and swearing and my husband, kids, and I had to leave a day early. Now neither of them will admit fault and they won’t even be in the same room together, much less talk. I have tried to talk to both. My mother brushes it off and says she can be civil but refuses to accept any responsibility and keeps talking about pushing him out of her life but not me or the kids. Every time I bring it up to my husband, he blames it all on her, and calls her names and when I try to express my opinion and how I feel about the situation he starts a fight and says I don’t understand what he’s going through and basically makes me feel like my feelings are wrong or not valid. This whole situation has caused me to go into a depression and it’s not only affecting my relationships with them but o feel like I’m not being an attentive mom to my kids. I want to stop fighting with him and for him and my mom to learn to be civil. What should I do?
Hi @indigoTree6621
That's a mess indeed. And a toxic condition and stressful situation for you, the kids and even both of them. Your wellbeing matter ♡
How's the kids? And how do they feel about all that's happening in the family?
It is extremely stressful. The kids know that their meme and dad had a fight but don’t realize how bad it was. I broke it to them yesterday that we are not going on vacation with my mom but put a positive spin on it saying we were going to take our own family vacation and although my son was sad and keeps mentioning the things he was going to do, he’s excited to go on a special vacation just us. I think my kids are too young to really understand what’s going on. I’ve kept things as normal for them as possible.
Hi @indigoTree6621
You're a great mom 💜 you keep the kids oblivious of the family feud. That reminds me of a movie La Vita e bella where the dad did everything so the son didn't realize how bad is the situation.
Hope both of your mom and husband can see the big picture and put aside their differences ♡
