my boyfriend and i have been together for 10 months now and before that he was my best friend. i’ve always struggled with opening up and i feel like it’s slowly becoming a burden when i can’t express how i’m feeling right away. today he said something and i had took it completely wrong which upset me and that wasn’t his intention at all and he apologized but idk if he meant the apology but because i didn’t believe he meant it, i just ddint answer him and he got upset. he says i do this all the time but that’s not true at all. we were doing completely fine and i’ve just been overwhelmed recently and this isn’t helping. now he’s going to bed upset and i can’t do anything about it. i’ve already apologized but he’s still upset.

I am in a similar situation like you, except that my boyfriend wasn’t my best friend beforehand. Many people struggle with opening up for many reasons. It is not wrong. it is something we can work on for our own sake. It can be frustrating when you can’t express your feelings all the time especially when in a relationship, but your boyfriend has to understand that. Misunderstandings often can lead to feeling upset, and it’s hard to apologize sometimes for a misunderstanding because it is usually not anyone’s fault, just miscommunication. Have you explained to him about your struggle with opening up and expressing your feelings? It can help a lot just letting him know why you react the way you do. It’s not good to go to bed upset or not resolving a problem. I think the key is communication for you. If he can not accept it or understand after you’ve explained, it’s not your fault and he shouldn’t make you feel bad for making him upset about it. Feel free to message me if you need someone to talk to about it
