Pain during sex and the anxiety that comes with it.

I haven't been sexually active for almost a year now since my relationship ended with my boyfriend.

During like the last month of our relationship sex became painful for me and having penetrative sex was no longer enjoyable.

I understand that stress and anxiety can have an affect on my body and there was quite a bit of stress and anxiety in my like over the past year or so.

I am seeing a doctor soon about the physical aspect of the pain so that I can hopefully start to understand what's happening. My doctor said they might give me dilators to help so that I can get used to penetrative sex in the future.

What I am more worried about is how I broach the subject with any future partners. I don't want to disappoint them with not being able to have sex.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense or is tmi.

@TheChippedCup

I hope that you will look for someone who is sufficiently sensitive to your needs to want to avoid hurting you. Someone who will recognise that it is a privilege to make love to you, and not just a body for him to get his rocks off with no thought for you.

Actually that's true for everyone isn't it, but arguably more important for you at the moment.

That's a pity to hear that! I think you may had two things that caused your state: it's еthe lack of vitamins ( like vitamin B3) or stress and depression. Mostly, people don't even guess that our physical state depend on pur mental health, as stress or some fears can really influence your sex life. As for the vitamin, this one is very important for sex drive. You'd better consult a specialist to exclude some more serious consequenses. And do not give up in despair! Everything can be changed if you want!

To add to this, I have been to see a doctor and everything is fine from a physical stand point. She did advise that I should get some dilators to help.

So I need to conquer the psychological side of this to alleviate the physical side of the pain.

If anyone has had any similar experiences I would be grateful for some advise.
