I'm not crazy, right?

So, my girlfriend and I had been together for about a year and a half. During that year and a half she's not only practically refused to "grow" with me. She always wanted to keep doing toxic, self destructive and self deprecating things. I tried really hard to help her but without much effort on her part and perhaps too much on mine, I soon became exhausted. I care deeply for her as a person but I didn't think I could help and support her the way she needed.

I tried explaining myself but she somehow turned all the arguements around to make me the bad guy for feeling upset and dissatisfied.

Sonetimes our arguments get so cluttered that I forget the original point I was making. It's a scary feeling to have to question this but..

am I just being crazy and cruel for breaking things off and asking her to move out?

@FragileFae You have been a very understanding person. You still care for her. Don't feel guilty about anything. Self care and self compassion is important to. You tried your best to help her out. Sometimes if you feel like she needs you maybe just be there to listen to her but I think you shouldn't blame yourself for anything now. :)

@FragileFae you arent wrong for doing that. im in the place of your girlfriend right now. my bf broke up a week ago for similar reasons, and yes, it hurts like hell and im lost and i regret everything i did wrong and i cry a lot. but maybe it will help me (and your ex) to realize things and grow. change doesnt happen in a week. ive been trying for a YEAR to grow, and only small changes happened. it wasnt enough, he left. maybe in some months, your ex will understand and change for the best. if you still care about her and want to help one last time (you dont have to of course if you feel its enough for you), try to talk her into seeing a therapist. it could really help. i stopped going to one because i thought "oh its gonna get better by itself my bf is here". you know how it ends...

i hope you are okay. dont worry too much about her. you will both have time to take care of yourselves now, and you will both be happier, even if its not together. smiley
