In love with my best friend
Hey everyone! I’m a rising sophomore in college and realized I had feelings for my best friend about 4 months ago (I’ll call her M). I was working up the courage to ask her out, but by that point she had already started dating one of my other close friends (I’ll call her Y). It gets complicated in the fact that M and i are going to be roommates next year, and Y is going to be living right next door. We also have always hung out as a trio, and I know things are going to change a lot. Of course I love both of them and just want them to be happy, but it hurts like hell. I recently saw M over our summer break, thinking that I had gotten over those feelings, but it just made me feel worse seeing her. I’ve been thinking of going low or no contact for the rest of the summer for my own mental health, but I don’t want to cut her off with no explanation. I’m also nervous about going back to school and having to see them together. Does anyone have any similar experiences or any advice? I care about them both so much and want to remain friends but the situation really hurts.

That's a tough situation to be in. Kudos to you for respecting their relationship. I am not sure there are any easy answers in this scenario. I wish I had some really wise words to share in this moment, but I don't! I can tell you are a quality human, and putting their relationship and happiness above your own will reap rewards at some point in the future. Always take the high road, and you'll never regret it.
Thank you, means a lot! I’m still not sure what I’ll do, but hopefully will get some clarity in the future.
So what ended up happening I'm in the same boat
I totally understand what you’re going through. It is a tough situation to be in💔. I used to be in the same position and didnt talk to my bestfriend for a while. i think you’re doing the best you can at this moment. It’s ok to take time for yourself and not contacting the other person for a while until you’re feeling better. I hope things will turn out well for you.
