Ive currently been in a 5 1/2 month relationship with my boyfriend who is in the navy. We havent been together that long but our bond was/hopefully still is strong. We are about 1,500 miles apart and have been for the past 4 months. He comes home in 2 weeks and is so eager to see everyone. He struggled last month with mental health and was unsure about the relationship that he started pushing me away, ignoring me, and making me feel like an online booty call. He was struggling with being in the navy and admitted he had lost feelings and lost himself I helped him work through his mental down spiral and apologized for saying that and that I meant the world to him and he truly does want to be with me. I was my fault too because I was pressuring him about fixing our relationship because we both felt a drift. We took a break from the relationship for a week and decided at the end wether or not we would still want to be together. And we decided yes and that we would both work harder. Well weeks later hes showing red flags. He ignores me for hours when hes not busy, and when he answers its so dry. Its breaking my heart and whenever I try to talk about it he dismisses my feelings. He still shows that he cares but I am afraid that he is slowly losing interest in me. He will he getting deployed to Washington state in 2 months and wants me to go to college out there so we can be together...not sure what to do so any advice will be much appreciated. :)

Hey there, hopefully you are doing well. There's a few things I would like to point out;

He comes home in 2 weeks and is so eager to see everyone. He struggled last month with mental health (I would like to point out here is to know what you are getting yourself into when it comes to someone who has mental health issues. Is he taking medications? Is he seeing a therapist to work on this?. If the answers are no then this will put stress in the relationship and it will make him behave in unpredictable ways which will trigger your anxiety) and was unsure about the relationship that he started pushing me away, ignoring me, and making me feel like an online booty call. (This is a red flag right here. The relationship has been going for about five months, and he is showing you that he won't be able to handle the kind of closeness that makes you feel loved and connected. He is sabotaging the relationship up to this point to not feel too close) He was struggling with being in the navy and admitted he had lost feelings and lost himself (This is another red flag. Five months into the relationship and we are seeing he has a lot of issues that will play a major role in the relationship.) I helped him work through his mental down spiral (Thia shows you are a very caring partner, but he will through this phases often because he has not worked through these issues) and apologized for saying that and that I meant the world to him and he truly does want to be with me. I was my fault too because I was pressuring him about fixing our relationship because we both felt a drift. (I can tell you really want to make this work, your anxiety triggered because you felt he was backing away from you. Be careful with how much you want to fix, because its an unconcious to repair what happened when you were a child. Is he going to be fully commited into making it work?) We took a break from the relationship for a week and decided at the end wether or not we would still want to be together. And we decided yes and that we would both work harder. (I wouldn't be surprised if he starts breaking promises the moment he begins to feel overwhelmed or not being able to handle closeness) Well weeks later hes showing red flags. He ignores me for hours when hes not busy, (This tells me he feels the closeness so he backs away, while you feel he is abandoning you, and then it might make you try harder to get his attention. He is also being inconsistent) and when he answers its so dry. (This is his way of sabotaging the relationship and feeling overwhelmed, so he begins to distance himself because he is not aware of whats going on inside of him) Its breaking my heart (Its totally understandable because you are feeling disconnected from him, so its causing you to feel emotional and physical pain) and whenever I try to talk about it he dismisses my feelings. (This tells me he grew up on an environment where they negated and dismissed his feelings, so he is doing the same to you. I can tell he doesn't know how to communicate like an adult, so this will actually cause you to feel even more hurt and pain) He still shows that he cares (Words don't really mean anything unless he backs them with actions. He is more focused with whats going on with him than how you feel) but I am afraid that he is slowly losing interest in me. He will he getting deployed to Washington state in 2 months and wants me to go to college out there so we can be together...not sure what to do so any advice will be much appreciated. :) (You are not sure about being together, which is a sign that something is making you doubt this decision. I encourage you to not ignore how you feel. Look at all the red flags he has been showing you in five months, it will only get worst when you two get together. He is not the person who can give you the kind of love and closeness you deserve...he will only give you inconsistent behavior and hurt)
