I think I need an advice :/

Hi, I just want to share what I've been through this whole year of 2016. and maybe ask for an advice?

I don't want to offense anyone and I'll try to make it simple.

So, I'm 17 and i'm in university already, so that's quite young. I had a crush on one guy who's been in the same group as I do. The first day we start to work together I knew I would have a crush on him eventually. he's not gorgeous, he's not so charming, yet he's mature and independent and brother kinda like.

At that time all I think about is "don't fall in love with him. he treats you as a friend or even a little girl. he's 20 and you're still 16 (at that time) he won't feel the way you feel about him, just stop." BUT I WAS WRONG. 2 months later, we're working on a project late night and he said he broke up with his longterm girlfriend (yes he was dating someone outside the uni). I think that's one of the reason why I fell in love with him.

long story short, from the beginning of 2016 until now, I keep falling in love with him deeper and deeper. and the other thing, we have different religion and in my religion we "shouldn't have a relationship or marry someone with different beliefs".

another thing, he kept giving mixed signals. sometimes when he's around me he would talk to me about the things we did back then, or make A LOT OF eye contacts, or staring at me for some time while smiling. idk what to do.

so help me : do I need to stay falling for him and make a move? or do I need to memove on?

I think you need to consider what is best for you and your beliefs and family. Our background and beliefs play a big part in most of our lives so I would consider how you would feel and how your family would feel if you dated someone outside your faith. If you are ok with it, then go for it! If you feel like it would cause you pain and distress, then perhaps move on. Don't forget to consider family get togethers and such. Will he be comfortable coming to them and will your family be accepting of him? And of course, as I said, if this does not worry you, then decide what you want and go for it! As for the guy, you can always tell him how you feel or let him make the first move if you so choose.

@Pinkfluffyunicorns8706 ah I get what you pointed out. I do need to think about my family, and idk his family too probably. I should ask my parents about dating people with different beliefs some time when it's the right time. thanks a lot!

If you think you do want to try and be together, a nice open discussion would help. If religion is a concern then talking about it with him (maybe even hypothetically) could let you know how he feels about being with someone from a different faith. I've always found it less stressful when you know where people stand on an issue, instead of guessing/hoping that you'll find out eventually. I agree with FluffyUnicorns though, it's important to figure out if you'd be comfortable dating someone from a different faith as well, before heading down that path. Best of luck heart

@QuietOcean18 hm I see. I should try to talk to him about that if it's the right time, but I don't think he will date someone with different beliefs. I should just move on I guess if that's true..

sometimes it's just hard to talk to him about something else besides our projects, because we're both so ambitious into our own works and we don't really talk about anything else (except that one saturday when I was only with him on a car ride the whole day). it's just pretty hard to talk about something different than we used to talk about.

There is no need to make it difficult.

You find a time and talk to him. Express your interest to him. Something along the lines of "Hey _____, I have a crush on you, I would love to get to know you better if you are interested, do you perhaps want to get coffee this Saturday around 1 pm?"

If the answer is YES, great! Now you can see if this goes anywhere.
If the answer is NO, great! Now you don't have to torment yourself over it.

If you never ask him, it will always be a no. Make the first move.

@SenpaiXD well, in my country we don't just say "hey I like you" or something like that. I actually had the courage to do that, and I did with my school crush. and after that his friends were mocking me for idk how months. after that I never want to try to express my feelings to a crush anymore.. if I don't live here I want to tho..

What to do depends on what you want. Religion is huge for some people and not that important for others. You mentioned it here and it would be worth addressing since that could be a "deal breaker" for you. Are you willing to get involved with someone outside of your faith? And what if it does work on, are you willing to marry and raise a family with someone outside of your faith? Those would be really important questions to truly spend some time reflecting on so that you can make a good decision on how to move forward. If the answer is not, you are not willing and want to wait for someone who shares the same faith as you then why pursue something that will lead to heartache, unless one of you is willing to change you faith.

@ali1112 sorry I just opened this. Thanks for the words. I thought about that and I simply need time to figure out what I really want. I mean in my opinion every believe is just the same, it has the same point, with probably different names and callings. but what about my family? I don't think they'll accept that..
