Situation still bothers me from nearly 20 years ago
Hi:
About 20 years ago, I reconnected with a friend who I fell out with 3 years prior after she seemed to lose her interest after she became an adolescent. Not only did she start dating but she became really cool and popular. She decided that I was too nerdy and weird because I have a disability that she didn't understand, which at that time was "High functioning Autism" Yes, we got together and talked on the phone but she seemed to brush me off by insisting that everything else was more important. Her mom even blew me off. "Can you call back in the next 10 minutes? I have such and such to do" and I would follow up only to find that she was not home.
So here is the situation
We fell out a second time when she didn't follow through on her plans to sleepover at my house at the beginning of the summer in 2000. In fact, she postponed our plans twice and ghosted me on the third day while she had her mom blow me off. I was also left out of her 16th birthday celebration which I really wanted to be there for which was at the end of that week. Believe me, I was mad at both of them for pulling things on me.
I was thinking about the situation today in terms of the way her mom acted and handled the situation. I feel that had she been responsible, her daughter would not have been allowed to treat people any way she wanted. Instead, she would have handled it like this
1. She would have apologized to me "I am sorry my daughter is being crummy friend to you and broke her promise to sleep over."
2. She would have also said, "I said my daughter could go out with her other friends today but I didn't realize she had made plans with you and is lying about it."
3. She would have had her daughter apologize to me and have us talk things through
4. She probably would have grounded her daughter for treating me like that
@Summershy hey summer. thank you for sharing with us today. it seems like the situation is still upsetting you which i understand. It does sound like she was not being responsible at all in this situation.
i hope you were able to feel some relievement and movement while ranting on here
this is your safe space.

I am gradually working through what she pulled but I have to accept they were not nice people. We did reconnect 6 months later after this friend became pregnant and I ended up living with them for about a month a year after that. During that last reconnection, I learned how toxic this relationship was. Especially when I lived with them. However, I ended up deciding this friend was not worth it after her mom kicked me out.
However, a part of me is still disappointed that things didn't end up the way I wanted in which we would have been lifelong friends.

Even though I learned how toxic and unkind my friend and her mother were, I ended up becoming really bitter towards my ex-friend for choosing my boyfriends and these other cool friends over me when she turned 12. This happened nearly 9 years ago when I attempted to ask her directly why she rejected me and was so mean. I even talked to her on the phone in which was conversation was fake and she wanted to rush off the phone. I discovered that I had out matured her in a lot of ways during that interaction. I didn't actually confront her there but I emailed her by asking the questions in which she blew me off. "I am sorry but I am busy running my business, I will call you in a few days." As a result, I became bitter towards her for 3 years until I was rejected by a more recent friend who was also just as bad.
