Been very good friends with a guy for over 2 years. About 6 months ago I asked what we were doing because friends and family were asking questions. He said he is not in a place to commit to a relationship like a person should. He got a new job about a year ago and has been working through family stuff with a therapist. We also live over 300 miles apart. He is my best friend and he has told me I am his. That what we have is more than friends but not sure what. We talk or text almost every day. Our phone conversations typically last for ours. We open up about our lives and our pasts. However, he never initiates hanging out or getting together outside of the work related stuff. Our jobs allow us to work together about once a month for a one day event or occassionally a weekend conference or retreat. During the summer we work at multiple week long camps for students. I want to continue doing the work and move my career in a direction that would most likely have us working together more often. Not sure if I can do that and not act on or continue to want more than just friends. I'm really struggling with what to do, and not sure if I should talk to him about it.

There is no regret in taking chances, the regret comes in the chances we did not take. Talk to him!

@intelligentBeing2887,

From what I understand you two mostly spend time together working or texting - things that usually co-workers or friends do.If he has told you that you are his best friend,then maybe this is so because men are usually straightforward in this respect and he is being honest with you - this is what you are,best fiends.Most likely he is not aware that you have developed feelings for him.Whether you choose to open up to him or not,it's up to you to decide.It takes a lot of courage to take the chance to be vulnerable and possibly get rejected.But typically if he hasn't asked you out on a date,then it's not something more than friendship on his part.If he has not gone to the trouble of making plans with you in his leisure time,then again how do you know what he does on the weekend and who with?Don't jump to conclusions too quickly,men usually make it clear when they like a woman as "girlfriend material".If you feel confused and not sure where you stand,here is your answer - you are in the "friend zone"!
