To Stay or Not To Stay?

I'll provide you with a little background information. I am a junior in high school and my boyfriend is a freshman in college. He is attending a local college. I do a lot for him and most of his friends are away at college. Recently I have found my self in a predicament. I am currently in a relationship that has lasted 16 months. About a month ago my boyfriend and I got into an argument. He felt like I was neglecting him and that I didn't make enough time for us. This hurt me a lot because I told him all about my busy schedule. Since I'm the president of my class, a leader in one of the biggest events in our community, in clubs, playing soccer all year long, and looking at colleges I haven't had time to hang out every moment. We hadn't hung out in about a week or two, but that's because I didn't have any free time. He knows how important these things are to me but still decided to make me feel bad. I began to feel bad every time I did something that wasn't hanging out with him. After a few days of much needed space he began apologizing profusely. Eventually we made up but things were never quite the same. Fast forward to now and I've begin to think that I'm not in love with him. I still think that he's a wonderful human being and I believe we would be great friends, but the stress of a relationship has affected me so much. Maybe I'm just overreacting, I tried to smooth things over, but it doesn't feel right. I don't want to cut him out of my life because he's still important to me, but I know if we break up he won't handle things well. I could really use some advice. This has been stressing me out all the time.

You sound very smart and that you've got lots of great things going for you! Good for you! First and foremost I must say I am PROUD of you for holding it all down! That is rare!! <3

It's not uncommon to feel a shift after the first big argument in a relationship - it's a crucial time, you learn alot about yourself. You learn what you like and what you don't like.

Step back and look at the big picture. Your life before this person and your life with this person now. Do they prevent you from doing things that make you happy? (The guilt?) You should never feel guilty for doing what you love right? <3

If you stay with this person, what are the reasons for being with them? If you stay with someone because they 'wouldn't handle the break up very well' how many more years of your life will be dedicated to this person that you're not happy with? It's just a thought. Either way, you're not alone. Please feel free to message anytime! <3

@understandingJet5878 I am glad to see that you are active in high school, and I suppose this has lead to your maturity and ability to handle things and calm things down in your relationship. It's admirable! heart I am sorry to hear that your relationship has not been going well as of late. There are many ups and downs in a relationship and currently you are in the downside of it. It sounds like he wants your attention but since he may be blinded by wanting attention, he cannot really understand that you are busy. He's human, and you are human too. Relationships are what we make of it, just like in life. Perhaps he can't see things your way because he has never been through it? Perhaps all you also want is his support. That is perfectly fine. What do you say to breaking up with him though? Would it make you happy and more relaxed? In relationships, two people have to trust one another. He has to learn how to trust you, perhaps, and understand that you have your own life and you have plans for the future for yourself. Whatever happens, it is your decision. In life, many things happen. Which path would be better? Where do you want to go? Do you think you want him to go with you there? You have your own priorities set straight and I perfectly understand that. I do hope things work out for you, and I do hope you have a bright future up ahead. Good luck! May love and light guide you far beyond! :)

@dhabib sorry to hear all that you have been through...it seems that all your life it has been one abuse after another...which started with your dad..and you somehow fees that is what you deserve...so you are pulled to these type of guys...you need to start by loving who you are as a person...and know that you deserve better than what you been getting...take time out to get to know who you really are...then and only then can you know your worth...I wish you luck on your journey

I'm a sophomore in college, I've been dating my boyfriend for 3 years, we've known each other for 5 years. And never once did I feel that he trusted me, maybe it's cause of the way we met cause I was dating his friend before we started dating. He doesn't let me hang out with my male friends, says it's inappropriate and pointless. Whenever we talk he wants to know where I am and all that.. What I'm really worried about is that, yesterday he beat me up cause he said I was getting too close to a guy I just met. According to him 'I'm telling the new guy things that I shouldn't share with anyone else but him. We're planning to get married and I really don't want to be in an abusive marriage. I'm really scared that when we get married, he'll be worse than he already is. What do I do

@graceydeary while it is going to be hard...you need to leave him...he is controlling and he already started with the physical abuse on you...it is not ok for a man to hit a woman...don't sit and make excuses for his behavior...get out now...or it will only get worse.you have a lot going for you...and you're young with a bright future ahead...don't allow this guy to destroy that for you.
