alright so i didn't really know where to put this, so i'm hoping here is my best option. so whenever i see a couple, i get physically sick. i just saw two people holding hands (one was my friend) and i literally feel like vomiting right now. i can never be happy for my friends or family when their in relationships because i'm so disgusted by it. i've been trying to figure out why i'm this way but it's a little tricky. i was in love once, and it ended up being the worst feeling ever. i've also been emotionally abused, but i'm not sure it's related. i feel like a monster because i think like this. i just want these feelings of hatred towards romantic relationships to go away

@Aquxrius

If you had bad experience with romantic relationship in the past and experienced abuse it is not surprising that seeing other people being in relationship can stir up some really difficult feelings for you. Have you considered counseling? Talking through it with a professional, in a safe space could potentially help you to make more sense of your experiences and find a way forward.

First thing, you are not a monster, you are not your thoughts. Sometimes we have thoughts are not true or that we dont believe. I would assume emotional abuse could be connected to your strongs thoughts against romantic relationships. If the thought or sight of people being invovled in romantic relationships actually makes you truly sick to your stomach, I would encourage you to seek some professional help. They could help you uncover where this is coming from and help you work toward healing. Its the same as a person being so anxious that they cant leave their home. Professional help could work with them (you) to move you in a healthier direction. It must be difficult to be in your shoes.

You are not a monster. I believe that there's always a reason behind what we feel. Maybe it could be related to what you had to go through in the past. Maybe finding the root cause will help you to deal with such feelings.

Hi i feel the same way too. Sometimes, i think about love but the feeling is fleeting quickly replaced by both fear and aversion. I always say how wonderful it might be to be in a relationship but after sometime i'd feel guilty like im doing something wrong. Like im not supposed to feel that way. So i end up being repulsed by it.

Yh I felt the same in the past so completely understand. I think there's several factors. A. It could just be jealousy, how who you feel if you had your own person to be intimate with, would it still bother you? B. They could be showing off or purposely trying to make you jealous. C. It could be triggering you, what does them holding hands mean to you? D. They could be taking it to far, as much as holding hands is nice.. And a sign of effection and a bond.. Some couples need to know boundaries on what's okay for public and what's better kept for in private. Personally anything more than holding hands is to much for me even if family want to hug in public but maybe they are doing it to be seen by others and thats why I don't feel comfortable, maybe it's just me or maybe it is too much or I'm just been considerate of others. In any case if it's just holding hands, try and be happy for them and know that healthy, loving relationships are possible and I do hope you find your own.
