We disagree on many topics.

Sometimes disagreements over a topic can lead to an argument with the person in front and you stuck.

Because the person in front is your family member. They could be your parents, siblings, some relatives and you find it hard to tackle it because you do not want to hurt anyone. You do not want them to think you do not respect them or their thoughts. You do. But how to put your thoughts as well?

And when you are not able to handle an argument, you feel miserable and hurt.

I experienced it happens more often among siblings.

Meet Hope and Maggie. They get into arguments quite often. Recently, they argued on sharing the wardrobe. It might seem silly but it is not. It is common to argue on such stuff as teenagers. So it seems hard to handle an argument, so what you could do?

#1. Leave the place of argument. Before things get worse between you and family member, better leave the place of argument. Because if you do not, you may lose your temper, get angry and mess your relationship. While leaving the place, allow both to cool down and give you better perspectives to process and handle the argument.

#2. Create your personal space. As a teenager, you need to have your own space. Space where you can sit, self-talk and be with yourself to think and frame your responses and actions. And, set a boundary that anyone needs to come to your personal space, they seek your permission first. Like, my study room is my space. Set yours.

#3. Talk to your elders if anything bothering you. You ended up in an argument with your sibling and you feeling messed up and do not know what to do to fix. It is bothering you. But you want to fix it. Better talk to your elders and parents. Elders can be your elder sibling as well who may act as a mediator to fix the argument. Talking helps.

#4. Be open-minded while listening to another person. You may not like what other person wants to say. But let them share their thoughts and listen to them with an open mind. Think and comprehend. And then put your thoughts on the table. Sometimes, both might want the same thing but the expression to seek can be different. And being open-minded allow you to figure out that without any arguments.

#5. Pick your battles. Know what bothered you. How are you feeling? What did make you feel this way? This will allow you to know what you both actually arguing about and why. It allows you to share your perspectives better.

Now that you have an idea about how to handle the arguments with your family members, you may able to build a healthy relationship with your family members.

Please do share your thoughts!!
