Why We Should Avoid Clicking On Links

Howdy, everyone!

This weeks topic is on why we should avoid clicking on links. One of the great things about the internet is how accessible information is and how easy it is to share information. While this is generally a good thing, this power can be abused. When someone sends you a link, think before you click!

Why you shouldnt click on any link you see

~Your anonymity might be compromised. Some websites are designed to steal your information the moment you click on them. Others might not be designed for that, but can still collect personal information and expose you. For example, when you click on Pokemon Go links your location could become public.

~You might download a virus. Some websites are infected with viruses. Some viruses might make your computer crash a lot or work slowly. Others could delete files, reformat your hard drive, or damage programs.

~You might see upsetting content. Some websites might lead to material that could potentially trigger you. You might also be directed to porn websites.

When it is ok to click on a link

~If the link leads to a 7Cups post or community, then it is ok to click on it. We have people on 7Cups whose job is to remove unhelpful, inappropriate, and harmful posts. If the link says 7cups.com in it, then it is safe!

~If you are referred to a crisis line during a chat, then it is ok and highly encouraged to click on those links! Please remember, 7Cups is not a crisis line. Please review our crisis policy if you are having a crisis and utilize the crisis links.

Stay safe, Cups!
