My parents are cousins and it’s affecting my mental health
I always knew that my parents were first cousins but I never thought about it too much back then since I was a child (I’m also aroace so I never rlly understood the difference between platonic and romantic but anyway) but looking at it now, I genuinely wish I would’ve been born from a different family. I don’t care if my life would be different, I just wish I had normal parents. I don’t feel worthy of doing or achieving anything anymore and don’t see any point in continuing to live either since I’m inbred. And their relationship isn’t only incest, but it’s also p3dophilic too since they’re SIX years apart and have known each-other since childhood (despite mentioning that they haven’t interacted much, it’s still just beyond gross). And I no longer blame the other parents who stopped wanting to be friends with my parents for “unknown reasons”. I don’t know what to do anymore, I don’t know how to separate my self-worth from the way I was created. I hate this
Hi @mochaccino.
I respect your feelings and views of yourself but really, I hope that you refocus and practice a little thing called acceptance..
Your a brave person for speaking up about your life and we're proud of you.
You are on the planet and you can't change that.. try to realize you can't change the negatives about being inbred but you can work to surpass that and be a person who deserves to be loved and respected. You are entitled to hopes and dreams just like everybody else.🌟
@mochaccino
You have worth for the person you are, regardless of your parents.
It's ok for you to not be in support of your parents' relationship.
Have you ever looked into support for people with consanguineous parents? It's common in many different cultures and sometimes it's really helpful to see others working through similar struggles.
Nope, I never knew something like that even existed. Even with the support I get from people on here, I still hate having to live with the fact that that event is the reason I even exist right now
@mochaccino It’s ok to hate the event, but I do hope you come to realize some good has come from it and you can love yourself.
I hope you can find good support in addition to 7 cups, local, online or both.
I can hear how much pain, confusion, and disgust you're carrying right now, and my heart truly goes out to you. But I want you to know something important: your worth is not determined by the circumstances of your birth. You did not choose your parents, their relationship, or the family you were born into. Those things are part of your story, but they are not your identity.
The fact that you are questioning these things and struggling with them shows that you have your own values, your own conscience, and your own ability to choose who you want to be. You are not responsible for the decisions that were made before you existed. You are your own person, with your own dreams, talents, and future.
Right now, it sounds like you're carrying a tremendous amount of shame that doesn't belong to you. What your parents did is separate from who you are. You deserve to experience joy, pursue your goals, build meaningful relationships, and create a life that reflects your values. Your existence is not a mistake, and your life has value simply because you are here.
I clearly understand how you feel. You deserve a life better than this. But then, what can you do? Just know that your self worth isn't determined by your parent's relationship. You have your own life and it'll help a lot if you focus on building it. I know how hard it can be but try and think less about your parents, so it doesn't affect you the more. You will be fine 💪❤️🤗.
