Slight tw!

So just a backstory I recently got in contact with like an ex talking stage, me and him have been like on n off for about a year. Yes this is wrong yes I have a bf but my relationship isn't anyone's business but mine. I simply want to fill you guys in on why this happened. So me and him started texting again and I had obviously started thinking more about him, and he's a smoker so I thought I would be able to ask him for smth to harm myself with bc I didn't think he would care. When I did he told me he does cares about me n we had a talk, he says I can talk to him but I feel it's weird yk. Anyways I had been depressed for a while now and him not giving me what I asked kinda sent me spiraling. I ended up finding something to harm myself and I haven't told anyone. I feel like I shouldn't and don't really want to count this as a relapse even though it is. I don't know what to do about this, should I just let it pass? Should I tell him? Should I tell my bf? I don't know. I havent thought about doing it again and I feel like I just did it as a one time thing yk. I just don't know how to like feel about this and if I should tell someone. I don't plan on doing it again, I don't even want too, I just had a mistake. But lmk what to do and if this should break my almost 9 month streak.

Be honest with yourself. Judging by the text, you're not doing it very well.

Relapse is part of recovery, and if you don't think you've relapsed, then your recovery isn't great. Sorry, ma'am.

@Livy001

Dear Livy,
I beat alcohol addiction a long time ago, I broke myself of the smoking addiction, I broke myself of the "risk taking behaviour" addiction. I achieved all of these things BUT I did not manage it without relapses. Any addiction no matter how small, or large, takes time and effort to break and it's not like you can just snap your fingers, or have your faery godmother wave a magic wand and it's gone.

It takes work, it takes effort and it takes an inner commitment. If YOU believe in yourself, if YOU set boundaries for yourself and stick to them you WILL succeed. Patience and not being too hard on yourself are key elements are two of the most important things in the process. If you have these YOU WILL win.

I wish you the very best of luck and please, don't forget you have friends and supporters here many of whom have been through the same thing. Come back often.
Namaste,
D.
