First time you ever experimented with self-harm?
I began self-harming after my first suicide attempt. The pain I felt from the attempt had caused a very calming effect on me. Remembering that, I began using self-harm as a manner to cope with my intense emotions, dissociative episodes, emptiness, and suicidal thoughts. That was when I was seventeen. I'm twenty now, and still struggling.
The first time I experimented with self-harm was in the eighth grade when I deliberately burnt myself with the curling iron as the result of an anxiety attack that was a regular occurrence. ever since then I have not attempted this again and am happy to say I have been without those horrid attacks for a while. though I struggle today with the way i view myself, and will do so until I change, I'm happy to say I have only harmed myself one time in the eighth grade and have not since.
The first time i cut was in grade 5 or 6 on the top of my wrist near te elbow, i dont really remember that i think i did it as a dare. Then in grade 8 i was depressed because of bullying and friends, so i cut on my wrist, but i didnt really think that through and my parents found it. This year i have been extremely depressed with cyclothemia and insomnia, and i self injure almost everyday on my hips whether it be at home or at school it doesnt matter.
The first time I did something to myself was to make myself sick. I did this for about 2 years near enough every day after school. I would come home and stuff my face with whatever I could find then would wait until I was able to make myself quite violently sick. I stopped that and then turned to alcohol so I became extreemly drunk then vomited voluntarily. Alcohol abuse as a way of dealing with my anxiety has been on the agenda for about 14 years, im 32 now. I have also been promiscuous. I started to hit myself in the face when I was 17. The first time was im winter and I was coming home from work late one night. We had just moved house and the driveway had frozen over and I couldnt get the car up it. I had slippery shoes on amd I couldnt get up the drive without falling over. I just remember the complete dispair of falling and falling and I fell on my face. Then it felt a bit better. And I thought ..if someone can see that I hurt myself falling over on the driveway then people will feel sorry for me and understand. Over the course of the next few years this developed into frequently beating myself up in the face, mostly punching in the jaw, slapping myself, pulling my hair, screaming and wretching. Sometimes I would smack a hairbrush into my face amd I would often hit my forehead. Having panic and anxiety attacks has happened to me for 14 years. I am so gratefully happy to say that I have stopped and I can't see that I will ever do it again. Since speaking regularly to a councillor and telling my immediate family and being honest amd open, it has helped me be honest with myself and I am calm(er). Opening up to my family is the hardest thing I have ever done and it has taken some time to get used to. But I know that was the best decision I have ever made. X
The first time I physically hurt myself was probably middle school, little cuts and bruises that I could shrug off as clumsy. High school got worse, had to wear lots of long sleeves even in 90 degree weather. Collage was under uniforms or where I could write it off as work. Burns, cuts, bruises, breaking skin with tension around my fingers, poking holes with paperclips....sorry for goin past first
I first self harmed a few weeks ago. I was feeling like crap and there was a pencil sharpener at my disposal. I did it again last night, but with a thumb tack.
I have attempted but something would always stop me. I felt like a coward for not doing it. I got drunk and decided to drive home with no care. I rammed into a fence but pulled in front of a car hoping to be tboned. It didn't workout.
I cut myself more than usual recently and I've come to terms that it's not something that I should do, it's taken a few weeks to go away and you can still see them. I've had urges but have not cut in a couple weeks.
The fiRst time I experience was wene I was really sad and depressed I started to feel all these emotions a year ago and I'm still cutting out of emotion I feel relieved and in another world when I do it.
First time was probably me punching myself in the stomach. I guess it was a result of bottled up emotions that ended up with me hitting myself repeatedly in the stomach with my textbooks. That was probably lowest point at the age of 14, but back then I didn't really consider cutting.
Then I guess I progressed to scratching myself on the arms. I never really broke the skin(it'd usually turn puffy and red) but I sure wished I could. This would mainly happen during class, where I'd get these intense feelings of self loathing and anxiety. If I did something wrong, or got embarrassed, I felt like I needed to punish myself for being worthless. So I'd mainly use my fingernails, or my locker keys and pens. Whatever was on hand.
Then one day I found a safety pin and began to give myself scratches with it. And then later I moved to razors and cutting my thighs.
Lately, I've gone back to punching and hitting myself in the arm until I get these huge bruises. I guess it feels more cathartic than cutting, with me being able to hit something. But now I'm trying to make it a habit that whenever I feel the urge, I'll go hit my punching bag instead of myself.
