First time you ever experimented with self-harm?
I was 11. My best friend had done it to herself a couple of times. I had been depressed for a while at that time, and I thought it was "cool" at the time. I was way wrong. I did it anyways and I found out that I liked the way it felt. I started to slice up the insides of my leg. My mom found out and I was clean for almost a year. I accidentally cut myself on a thorn recently, and it reminded me of how much I liked the feeling of being cut/scratched. I started again a couple of days ago. I completely butchered my leg with a sewing needle. I COMPLETELY regret EVER cutting myself in the first place
I was 14 or 15, and I actually tried it in a fit of rage. To my amazement, it calmed me down. It felt like meditation almost, just watching what I'd done to myself. After that, any time I felt extra emotional, I'd cut up my arms and feel calm again. When I'm depressed, it makes me feel alive again. When I'm anxious, it calms me. When I have flashbacks, it grounds me. I'm trying to stop, but it's so hard. 💔
I was 13. It wasn't exactly what I would see as self harm at the time, but I've come to realise that it is. Every time I would do bad in a school exam, I would go home and scratch myself with the point on my compass. It hurt a little bit, but the scratches never stayed for long so I did it anyway. I stopped for about 2 years, but started again when school began to become unbearable for me. I soon went on to cutting too.
i was 11..i still am..and i took the blade out of a pencil sharpener..i had it cuz y not...then one day i got cyber bullied really bad..i made a video of myself cutting...i cut the border of my hand..then it got worse and i cut my whole arm..then mom thought i was attention seeking until now that i cut to kill myself..
I don't really remember how old I was, but I remember putting my hands under the hot tap and leaving them there for as long as I could stand it, even when it really hurt. Then I'd but my hands in cold water, and do it again. I don't know why I did it at the time, all I know is it made me feel better.
I was told by a friend that I wasn't really depressed if I didn't self harm. It pushed me over the edge to cutting a very shallow scratch. I thought that would be the end of it but then I wondered what going deeper would be like and I got addicted
The first time self harming was when I was 10, a boy in my year, introduced the emo culture to me, I began cutting when I felt angry and upset, which was pretty much everything. when I was 16 it became a lot less. I was addicted for nearly 6 years and I am not doing it anymore, haven't done it for nearly 4 months til the other night! But still feel like I could go stronger now
I was in my mid 30s when I decided to self harm! I had a bad depression and thought let me try self harm. I felt better after using scissors on my arm. The last time I did it in my early 40s over a man who wasn't worth crying for. I promised to never do self harm for no man ever again and I didn't. I only harmed myself if my depression is very bad and I can't cope with it. Only instead of doing that I picked my skin. Yuck.
Last year I did it once, I thought my life was going down hill.. oh boy how it has changed, it's only been recently that I've really been having the urges.
Unfortunately I had just started a few days ago. :(
