Chat Rooms
Hi. I joined the site a few weeks ago and found a lot of comfort in talking to others about my problems and found a lot of people who share those problems with me.
Today someone came into the "family" chatroom and started talking about how they were abused by their uncle. They sounded really scared and frantic. Two people in the room were trying to help them but then all three people (the victim of abuse and the two people helping them) were kicked out of the room.
There was a "group chat" going on talking about buying presents for people and because they didn't want it disturbed they silenced someone seeking help.
They went on to have a conversation about buying presents for those they love while these three people are now silenced.
Is that what this website is about? I was appalled to see this type of beahviour from "mods."
I thought this was a website for helping people in need and not for silencing those who inturrupt fun chats about buying presents.
@wittySpring4836 This , for example, are ten different people who tried the "free trial" and got charged. The website refuses to refund anywhere between 150-300$
@Yougotthisdontfret OH MY GOD!
Which room was it in? If it didn't say "support" in the title then they probably felt justified in kicking you all out. Which doesn't feel right, it doesn't make sense to me, because isn't the whole site supposed to be a support site overall?
Idk just remember one thing, the internet is the internet. No site is sacred.
Spring4836- I take it they were bumped out due to a Discussion being hosted by a Mod. I'm not sure why the Discussions aren't always held in the EVENTS Room? (sometimes they are) It would see to be the appropriate place for it... and wouldn't distrupt on-going Chats
@ChromeLotus
Hi Chrome... Most rooms are a "topic" of "support" room. We hold discussions in Support Rooms for the "topic" at hand. Family Room is for Family discussions, and Healthy Living for Healthy Living topics...etc... does this make sense?
The "Events" room is for just that, "holding events" such as trivias, games etc..etc..
Support Topics only last "ONE" hour in the room. And there are plenty of other rooms to connect with until discussions are over, as well as members can connect one-to-one with a listener. Hope that helps with the confusion on this.
Hi everyone!! Discussions can be held in any of the rooms. Sometimes they are held in the events room. However, guided discussions on specific topics, such as depression, are typically held in the topic-specific chatroom such as Depression Support 1 and so forth. Additionally, discussions about topics that may impact depression (or anxiety or family etc), such as Christmas, are often held in the topic specific rooms as well. When a discussion is in progress, we ask that members either find support by joining that discussion, by connecting wiht a listener 1-1, or by connecting in a different chatroom. @wittySpring4836 I'm sorry that you are upset about this. I hope that you were able to find a listener or different room to connect with others.
@wittySpring4836 Hello! Thank you so much for your feedback! On 7 Cups we have guided discussions and support sessions. You can check out our community calendar to find out when and where they are happening. All of our specific support rooms have support teams, and those lead regular support sessions. Those are needed to build the community around the specific topic, to support people on certain issues, and them being guided often makes it easier for people to join in. Answering questions is easier sometimes, than to share in a room where a lot of other things are going on.
So for that hour a support session or discussion is taking place, we ask people who do not wish to participate in the support session to use one of our other support rooms. We have around twenty of those on the adult side, which means no one is ever without support. And there is also the option to connect to a listener for a 1 on 1.
That is even a rule in our chatroom rules, as we want to make sure that the people participating in a support session do not get disturbed and feel uncomfortable. As moderators we first always send out general reminders, and to let people know how they can get support if they do not wish to join in a discussion. If people still do not respect the special session, they get warned. So we give everyone a chance! During that hour, our first priority is that the support session is running smoothly and that everyone who wants to join in, feels welcome.
I can understand that it might seem rude towards someone who needs support with something else during that time, but we actually make sure that those people know where the appropriate places to get support in during that time are. There are a lot of other support rooms, one can go to a 1 on 1 with a listener, or someone can even be in the forums.
As to the comment about having discussions in the guided discussion room. We have support teams linked to specific rooms. Those teams are there to make sure the community in those rooms thrive, and that people with the those specific issues get support. And they are often even linked to the subcommunities around those topics. We are talking about one hour a day or so, when we offer guided support sessions. Those support sessions are appreciated, needed, and bring some structure to the rooms.
Thank you everyone for your "Feedback".... I apologize for whoever felt they were ignored or were turned away. As the Ambassadors have stated above, during "specific discussion times" we do politely ask that all discussions that aren't pertaining to the specific support discussion itself, please find another room while the discussion is going on, or to please reach out for 1-1 chat with a listener.
The discussion leader did take the time to mention these rules before their discussion began, as well, politely sent a verbal reminder several times before warnings may have been given.
@wittySpring4836 We understand that the holidays can really be difficult for many, and we in no way make light of those situations here at 7cups. We thank you for being involved here at 7cups, and that you and many others have found an outlet here during these times. However, We are only talking about one hour a day or so, when we offer these guided support sessions. Those supprt discussions are very much needed by others and also appreciated by most as well...And we do hope that you and others were able to find a listener or different room to connect with others.
