Hello Again, Check-In Event!

User Profile: Laura
Laura June 2nd, 2016

Hello Member Community!

I want to invite you to participate in a special check-in event! The goal of this event is to check-in with listeners you've chatted with in the past. We all have a contact list of our previous listener connections on our growth progress page. Go to this page & select a few listeners you have connect with in the past and send them a friendly hello!

Sample message you could send:

"Hello XX, It's nice to see you again! I enjoyed chatting with you back in XXX. I am participating in the 7 Cups check-in event and I wanted to say hello again to you! When we chatted you made me feel a lot better. It would be great to set up a time to chat again or just check-in & say hi!"

Here is how to participate:

1) Go to your My Progress Page.

2) If you are like me, you have many listeners on your contact list! The oldest contacts are at the bottom of the list. Start at the bottom & work your way up. Find a few you'd feel comfortable reconnecting with!

3) Send them a friendly check-in message. The message can be an inspiring quote, or compassionate greeting. Tell them how much they helped you out in your time of need & let them know you are thinking of them. Use the sample message above!

Note: For those of you who want to participate, but are nervous about not getting a reply back from your old listener, don't worry! It's true, some listeners do come and go and may not get back to you. But that is okay. Checking back in or trying to reconnect never hurt anyone!

4) If you participate, please post in this thread and let us know! Do not list names, but list the number of past listeners you've sent a kind message to!

5) Earn the "Hello Again" badge when you participate!

ALL WELCOME to join in!

@Laura I sent hello to four listeners last night! So far, only one of them has responded, probably because exams are right around the corner. :)

@Kryokina

Exams and life aren't excuses for listeners not to respond. If they want to listen and help they will respond to people.

@DanaMHH I can't exactly blame them though since I'm studying hard for exams myself. Of course, I suppose this is the time when my mental stability is tried the hardest, but I still can't blame them.

@DanaMHH I'm sorry to hear you're disappointed in the listeners. I had a listener who really helped me if you want to send them a message: https://www.7cups.com/@Power2DoGood. Some advice for finding listeners in the future: browse for listeners based on who has the most experience and highest ratings rather than sending out general requests. I hope this helps! :)

@DanaMHH Oh sorry, I didn't realize you were an adult. In that case, here are two experienced listeners for both teens and adults: https://www.7cups.com/@RenaMinerva and https://www.7cups.com/@Alexlovesyou. I haven't had a full conversation with either of them yet, but they both have very high ratings and have acted very professional in our communications thus far. You can give either of them a message if you want! :)

@Kryokina

I am not going out seeking people. If they really care they will come and seek me to chat.

@DanaMHH It sounds like you might be feeling mistreated and unappreciated because no Listeners have reached out to you. I'm sorry if you feel this way, but they can't know you have a problem unless you reach out at least in a discussion group. And since you're an adult, you also have access to 7cups online therapy sessions. Have you checked that out yet?

It's up to you though as to what the best next steps for you will be. If you want to talk out your problems, the Listeners, discussion groups, and forums are all wonderful places to go. Of course, if you want to talk out your problems without reaching out to anyone, you can always write in a journal and/or speak into a recording device. And if you're seeking advice, a therapist would probably be the better option.

I really hope something I have said has helped you, but if not, please continue to let me know! I'm determined to keep trying to help you find your place on 7cups. :)

@Kryokina

The groups shut me down and I am not paying for a therapist when I already pay him $150 a week for 3 sessions since I don't have MH insurance.

@DanaMHH I am very sorry to hear you're having to deal with these rough situations. You probably feel exasperated, like no one can help you. I do believe you can receive help though in the right environment! But because I don't know anything about what you need help with, it's going to be more of a challenge to help you find your place. Can you tell me more about how the groups have been shutting you down? Everything I have witnessed in the discussion groups so far has been nothing but uplifting and encouraging, so I want to hear about your experience with it if you feel comfortable sharing. :)

@DanaMHH I am so sorry to hear you want to die. It sounds like you haven't been finding the right support group for you on 7 Cups yet. No one should be exposed to circumstances that encourage them to die. :( If you ever are considering killing yourself, I highly recommend you do reach out and call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. Please don't kill yourself; there are far more productive coping methods for handling these negative emotions.

What do you think is causing you to want to die in general? Are you feeling sad? Stressed? Angry? Afraid? Do you have depression? I don't know if you've tried any of these options yet, but 7 Cups has several ways of supporting people with depression, and these can be quite helpful, whether you do have depression or you want to die for some other reason. First, there is a self-help guide about handling depression; you can check that out here if you want and see if you can glean some useful advice from it: www.7cups.com/depression-help-online. You can also try, if you haven't already, the depression support group chat: www.7cups.com/member/connect/conversation.php?c=mWZrdneVleJO45dtiFqX, as well as the depression support subcommunity: www.7cups.com/home/depression/. The last thing I can think of right now to help you is this forum where you check in with updates on how well you're doing handling your depression: www.7cups.com/forum/DepressionSupportCommunity_52/DailyCheckinThreads_954.

I used to have depression myself, so I am passionate about trying to help others with depression conquer it. I had considered taking my life multiple times to escape the pain of life, but somehow, I felt more scared to let go than to remain and suffer, and this is the way it should be. Eventually, someone gave me a piece of advice that really helped me conquer my depression: keep a daily gratitude journal, each day writing out just three things you're grateful for, no matter how minor. Desperate for a way of getting rid of this dark cloud of depression that was constantly looming overhead, I started putting the advice into action almost immediately. Over time, this helped me to conquer depression and develop an overall positive outlook on life. Feel free to try keeping a gratitude journal yourself to see if it gives you a more positive mindset or helps you in any other way. :)
