Just posting to let you know i moved the tread to a more appropirate section of the site!

@MonoCynthium You're right, of course, that people are largely influenced by emotion and instinct. Therefore I'm not sure that urging mods is the right solution. Mods have been urged before. Frequently.

It seems to me that a chatroom simply has the wrong structure to meet the need of new listeners seeking support. A rota of duty mentors would be a more usual structure in real life, and I think it would work better online too. Then the chatroom could be renamed the Listeners' Clique Hangout Room and everyone would be happier.
