Suggestion : Creating a supportive space for females

As a listener, I have been discussing with many females members and listeners and this is very clear that sexism is one of the most current issues we are facing every day.

I find it pretty sad that we don't have a place at Cups where sexism is addressed and where you could support each other, listen and share about the sexist violences we all have to experience as females. I think it could be at least a topic to select in the settings section, I also think that having a community, a group chat-room and guided-discussions about those issues would be very useful and meaningful.

I would love to hear what your suggestions and thoughts are about this potential future supportive space we deserve to have. :)

Hey, Mya. I can definitely understand where you are coming from. Sexism is definitely a real thing, whether it is unconscious or not. I am all for supportive spaces for all our users. Have you ever visited the Trauma Subcommunity? There are areas there for support. Also, you can discuss sexism probably in the Current Events room as it may be an acceptable topic there.

I do wonder if you have personal experiences that you have run into on the site where users have acted inappropriate towards you or someone that you know. If this is the case, you are free to report them to community@7cups.com

Going to tag some people for input:

@HopieRemi Thank you for your comment !

Yes I am aware of those spaces, and they are useful ones, but I don't think they address sexism enough. I don't feel like most females will directly think of going to those spaces if they need some support for it.

And also yes I have been a victim and saw a lot of sexism in here that I always report, unfortunately it doesn't seem like it's decreasing.

@Mya000

You're welcome. How could these useful spaces we have right now do a better job of addressing sexism, in your opinion? And I am sorry to hear that you have been a victim of sexism and have seen it a lot. We definitely do not want that kind of behavior.

@HopieRemi In the current communities, I think making posts in the forums, and guided-discussions about those issues, naming them clearly could be a very good thing. I also think that saying clearly that sexism is not ok would be needed. Maybe explaining what is sexism and what an everyone can and should do would be needed to.

@Mya000

I think sexism would fall under not being supportive in the guidelines. I definitely like the idea of more discussions in the forums and rooms for those communities. Have you thought about reaching out to the relevant Community Mentor Leaders if you are interested in starting that conversation there?

@HopieRemi Hey there! Thank you for the tag!

@Mya000 I think that's a great idea! Could you please check within our subcommunity list where do you think this area would be most fit? We can definitely create a subforum there in the place of your choice and see where we can scale it up to!

I think it could work with General Support for the support purposes and Safety & Knowledge too for the educational aspects.

Mya,

I think this is a great idea. I think these ideas need to be discussed as I believe communication helps any and all communities better understand one another. 7 cups has a lot of communities and sub-communities in the forum where a variety of people are seeking answers and many with experience are helping them better understand their questions. At the same time, both parties are learning from one another. This back and forth dialogue will only help to enhance sites like 7 cups and to better empower not just females, but everyone as a whole. In order to better understand ourselves and help detect and deter blind spots, we must address them so that we are no longer blind, but are equipped with knowledge to help out our community to those who may inevitably find themselves in these same blind spots seeking clarification and education.

@GoldenTriangle909 Thank you for your comment, this is very interesting. Indeed, I agree with the fact we could provide support and also education about those issues. This is important. And this is also very true that fighting against sexism is helpful for all of us, females and males.

So sorry @Mya000 for the delayed response. I agree with you, we should definitely have a platform to openly discuss all current issues that we face as listeners ❤️. I think guided discussions are great at opening up conversations and also allowing others to gain insights into each other's struggles. Thank you for opening up about this topic ❤️
