What is up with these topics tho
"Getting unstuck", "managing emotions", "men's and women's issues", what does that even mean?
"Relationship stress" so no general relationship topic? Only stress?
"General Mental Illness" does it have to fall under a specific label/diagnosis or can it be about any brain malfunction?
"Spirituality" good to see we only support those in it and not struggling with the effects of coming out of it? Uh?
No wonder I rarely use the 1 on 1 feature...can't find a fitting topic most of the time.
@Phthalo
Those labels are actually to help you get a better listener who is experienced in a certain topic so they are able to listen better to you. I am sorry instead of making things easier, as expected it has been making things more complicated for you. I suggest you to take those terms loosely but if you want an interested listener who might give you a helpful conversation, clicking on the topic will help tremendously.
Below are some examples of what those terms mean but definitely not limited to them.
"Getting unstuck": Being in a position where you are low, down and have no motivation in life or in specific areas like a failing career or failing relationship.
"Managing emotions": Maybe you have been feeling numb lately or you have been feeling confused and burdened and want a way to better understand your own emotions and to get out from the rut.
"Men's and women's issues": I am not sure what these meant as I believe they are newly included in the list. I would believe it might be stress with dealing with urinary problems, pregnancy, menstruation etc.
"Relationship stress" so no general relationship topic? Only stress? : I know they mention the word 'stress', but it is always okay to click it and then discuss about a general relationship topic. This isn't an exam, quiz, test or Q and A, so don't take the terms to seriously and strictly.
"General Mental Illness" does it have to fall under a specific label/diagnosis or can it be about any brain malfunction?: It just means everything else which are not stated. Of course you can click this if you wish to talk about anykind of brain disorder.
"Spirituality" good to see we only support those in it and not struggling with the effects of coming out of it? Uh?: You can choose this and also talk about how hard it is for you since you left it. Like I said, those terms aren't detailed explainations or fixed labels, just a loose term to let listeners know what they should be expecting.
"No wonder I rarely use the 1 on 1 feature...can't find a fitting topic most of the time".: You should try using the 1 on 1, it has proven helpful for many. If it is not your thing, forum and chatrooms are helpful too.
Hey there! I understand your confusion. "Getting unstuck" refers to being emotionally stuck, and "managing emotions" refers to generally managing over-reactive tendencies. "Men's and women's issues" refers to gender-specific issues.
"Relationship stress" embodies the general relationship topic. Usually, the main common reason is stress, but anyone that needs general relationship help is able to select that topic.
"General Mental Illness" can be about any brain malfunction.
"Spirituality" embodies both who currently religious, and those coming out of it. Actually, I submitted a suggestion box awhile ago about adding that topic, because I often get members struggling with "coming out" as a non-believer or a believer of a different faith to their parents.
The topics are meant to be interpreted loosely. I hope this helps!
I agree some of the categories are weird in terms of what exists and what doesn't. We have general mental illness - but not illness. Specific stress issues, but not stress in general.
It's not necessary to pick a topic though, and you can always send a specific listener a message if offline or try to connect if they are listed online (which I find personally to be very hit or miss if they actually respond).
