What is your WHY?
I was an insecure kid. Afraid to speak up in class, never sure of myself. I had a lot of quiet dread happening behind the scenes. Then when I was in college I learned about a program for elementary school girls called Girls on the Run. It was created for the little girl just like me and helped boost confidence and self-worth in grades 3-5. I remember wishing it had been around when I was a kid. As a result I became very involved with Girls on the Run, and I still am! This is my WHY. This is why I donate so much time, love, money, energy, etc into this program.

7 Cups is an incredible place full of incredible people willing to spend their time, money, energy, etc. We want to always have the mission of 7 Cups in the forefront of our minds as we are making decisions in the community. Those of us who choose to volunteer at 7 Cups, what is our WHY?
Please think about this and post below your WHY for being a part of our 7 Cups volunteer family.

@Jill7cups Thank you for this Jill.
I am here due to one of the listeners here who introduced me to this site. They believed I could bring support and help for the members of this community. And, I am glad I am here.
In amidst of my own struggles and challenges, it works as a coping mechanism or I say a distraction to keep my mind away from some bad events and memories. It keeps me engaged, busy and focused on helping others and doing some or other things now and then. It feels good and satisfying when members come back to you and say, "You brought the difference in my life." It feels like an accomplishment, a gift.
I met with some really great and amazing people. Some are an inspiration, some are the mentors and some are giggling friends. Happy to be here. Thank you 7Cups Community.
i volunteer on 7cups because i understand how difficult life sometimes be and how often we just need someone that listens to us.... i am a volunteer here because i am sure that every voice should be heard and that everyone who reaches out for help, should be helped. and i am a mentor here because i want to help struggeling listeners too and love seeing them turning into the best listener they can be.
I've always been someone who quietly observes the world, I was shy in my initial development stages, but grew confident towards high school - that never stopped me from quietly observing or listening. I found it just about natural for me to decide to attain my bachelors in Psychology (Applied Psychology) last year - as a psychology student, I now better know that my initial thoughts and beliefs that everyone behaves for a reason are true. Though it was my first year this past summer, I ended up googling opportunities or sites which support mental health and I stumbled upon 7 cups: It was a heaven for me. I have always resonated with Glen's views that "what if there was always someone who could listen" - I appreciate that the world has very few listeners (though this community seems to have all of them :P) and so I just knew right then that this would be my WHY - simply wanting to be there for someone, as a listener, someone who doesn't judge but try to understand. And I have loved the value of simply hearing how that means to people, I am sure my fellow listeners know that this all, listening and everything, is a treasure!
Ask yourself today, "why not" - this usually helps everyone seek the path to success
i am still relatively new on this site, tho i did first 'dip in' as a member 2 yrs ago. i have only been a listener for a couple of months, because i just wanted MORE. i like to think this is part of my "Continuing Education", in life and in experience. i have certainly helped me more than anyone else i know, by striving to improve my listening skills,, my committments, my honest self evaluations..
and the stupid little 'Growth Path', has been very entertaining, too.
