So in group chats we are only allowed to use English language for inclusivity purpose which makes complete sense but does this rule apply in forums also?

I see some posts in other languages often in forums 😅 and just confused.

I had the same question when i joined this app. English is my 3rd language 😁 and sometimes it gets too much difficult to convey the deep emotions.😅 but I think you are right, it might be for inclusivity reason. most of the people understands English. So they can encourage/help each other. But I have seen some region forums where people communicate/post in there native language.🤗💜

@navySea3717 aw I understand it can be more difficult communicating about emotions, glad we can use our preferred language in personal chats with listeners if they speak the same also 💖

Thanks for your reply 🤗

@Optimisticempath There used to be a guideline that it needed to be in Around the World (or it's earlier name) and if a non-English post was in a different area, it would be moved to that community.

Reference to that guideline was removed, I'm not sure if that was intentional.

@Optimisticempath I am a former chatroom mod. The reason for English only in the chatrooms, is for Modding purposes and also to let more people get and receive support. I do not mod the forums, so I cannot speak to the form side. I will let @ffyavo and @CherryMango speak to the forum side of things.

I hope this answers part of your question, with regards to the chatroom side.

@calmMango9611 thanks mango for your reply and being supportive to the community. yes it makes sense about moderating chats in rooms and I understand it too ... was wondering if the same applied to forums because I think it should since forums are a public space also and people might not get purposeful replies at all if other users don't understand what's really written ... I don't rely on translations much.. with emotions specially

@Optimisticempath

Hey Empath! We don't have a definitive forum guideline outlining the posting of other languages in the forums. As Affy mentioned, posts in other languages were only down in the Around the World community. When posts are posted in any other language than English, it requires translation done by the forum moderation team to ensure that the posts are within the community guidelines. I will confirm with the admin team to have a solidified guideline to have in the community for understanding and clarity.

@CheeryMango Thanks Mango

I see some posts in other sub coms also and they are usually more topic focused... for example I saw one in trauma support recently and seemed it could use support but I couldn't reply because I didn't know the language and I didn't want to rely on just translations to communicate where emotions and support is involved.... if that makes sense??

Thankyou for talking to the team about this.. a clear guideline would be great.

I feel forums are a public space too and could use only English language also since otherwise the people seeking support might not receive as much as it's hard to know when will someone visit their forum and whether or not they can support with it ... can also be limiting otherwise to see other people engaging in a forum conversation that is in a certain language 😅

I look forward to an update about the same. Thanks for being so helpful and kind always 💖

Follow-up: We will be adding a new forum guideline that will state that all forum posts have to be written in English for easy moderation in the community.

@CheeryMango your the best❤❤❤ this is an awesome update

Just to clarify for myself xD this applies to all sub communities? other language threads won't be allowed in around the world sub community also?

It'll be easy keeping it simple and same for every forum!

@Optimisticempath

Yes, it will apply to all communities. The forum guideline "For moderation and inclusive participation, we ask you to please use English in the forum space." is now added here
