Help us name our care model!
What we are doing here on 7 Cups is really unique. Trained voluteers + technology + professionals work together to extend healthcare access. Some folks call this task shifting or task sharing. We are not huge fans of those terms, b/c we don't really feel like they capture what we do. When I think of our model I think of renewable energy - it is limitless, it is free, and we are getting better at figuring out how to channel it to help more people. We need a really good name for our model. One that will really stick and highlight the work we are doing, but also provide a framework so that other groups can provide similar care under the same title.
Here are some terms we've been thinking about. The term should sound good with both care or healthcare at the end. For example: renewable care or renewable healthcare, compassion now care, together care or together healthcare, free care, open care or open healthcare, openhanded healthcare, 7 cups care or 7 cups healthcare, horizon healthcare, lean on me care (like the song..what i've been singing all weekend as i think about us), lean on me healthcare, mutual care and connected care or connected healthcare.
The 3 key parts are:
Free - We are volunteers who provide compassionate care to to reduce suffering.
Collaborative - We work together and with professionals to provide the best care that we can given limited financial resources.
Iterative - Our care keeps getting better and better because we keep learning through training and technology experiments.

I agree with the posters who have said that the name shouldn't include healthcare - I also think that is misleading. For me support and someone to talk to/listen are the most important things and are what would probably draw most people in. Another thing is that I think the name should be simple and clear, not use a play on words or double meaning as people who will use the service would possibly find that confusing and not appropriate. Just my opinion though :)
My first thought was about whether to say "care" or "healthcare". My understanding is that 7 Cups as a whole is intended to provide healthcare. Emotional support is part of that. It's confusing that the emotional support part was established first, making it seem like the professional healthcare is an unimportant sideline, but really "healthcare" expresses the whole model better.
My second thought was that we use the full range of healthcare provision from untrained members supporting each other, through trained listeners to professionals. "Full spectrum healthcare" came to mind (but at least one other company uses that phrase to mean something different).
Then I thought about "community-driven healthcare". Again, this term is already in use elsewhere, but it means something quite similar to what we do. What makes us different is that we're a virtual community.
"Virtual community-driven healthcare" was my next thought, but it's far from catchy and the abbreviation VCDH is unpronounceable.
Seeking a pronounceable abbreviation, I then got to the "participatory online healthcare model", POHM. The abbreviation has other meanings, but they're in other contexts and not very widely known, I think. Google has no results for the phrase itself.

While I understand the concern of calling it "healthcare" because it may lead to the false impression we provide "medical knowledge or advice" or have people (listeners) who are liscenced to practice health care services on 7cups, I think we have to keep in mind 7cups is like no other, but is being recognized as an "innovation in health care"
Also, one of the major topics of discussion is about stigma and spreading awareness of mental health! Are we not trying to get this awareness and acknowldgement from others that mental health IS a part of healthcare? Is what we are providing as listeners mental health care?

I really like the horizon care/healthcare so I am going to run with this!
Perhaps extend that to "New Horizons Care/Healthcare"
As has been stated, 7cups is like no other, it is looking beyond what the horizon (of mental healthand support) has shown us before, it is forming a new look, a new horizon, a different outlook than what has existed.
I think everyone did raise a good point with the Health care name - It might be suggesting that listeners can provide medical help or help with physical struggles, however we are not trained, professionals or have courses to cope with the physical side of things. So perhaps we should refrain from Health care.

Why not try "A Cup of Tea"? :) tea is known for its Refreshing and relaxing properties....plus, this is 7 Cups so... A breaking addiction/ 'wake up' program could be called " A Cup of Coffee" and a health care program could be called "A Cup of Green Tea"... What do you think? ;)

I strongly feel that many of us here are passionate and dedicated to help others. If we have different training programs with extra supervision, then we can provide the same support as professional therapy. Transference occurs In professional counselors as well, therefore we cant trust anyone blindly even if their intention is not bad. Supervision and Feedback must be compulsory for listeners as well as therapists, so that the quality is maintained. I really hope this community grows and we get to see more platforms like this.
