August 21: Monthly Cohort Welcome Subforums
Hello My Forum Friends!
We are excited to announce a change to how welcoming in subcommunities and forum categories will work moving forward. I have shared this idea with a bunch of you already! Woohoo!
Right now, welcome threads exist in a few different ways around the site: a mega thread, subcommunity intro threads, as part of checkins..etc. This is awesome, however, we want to add more organization, structure and consistency to our welcoming efforts in each subcommunity or forum category. Moving forward, we will create spaces for newbies to meet other newbies who have joined in the same month. Think of it like knowing the other people in your class at school. We want to make sure that all newbies can find and connect with other newbies who are starting their journey at 7 Cups around the same time.
What does this look like in practice?
In sub-communities or forum categories where there already is an introduciton sub-forum, we will not create a new space! We will simply add new introduction cohort threads every month!
ex. "Newbies in August, Introduce yourself here"
However, in some subcommunities and forums, the introduction threads exist as part of an icebreaker or more general topic area. In these cases, we will create a new sub-forum for the monthly cohort threads to live.
Though this week, I will be working my way through each forum area and adding this/ prepping for this change! Please keep a look out!
And... come Septemeber, we will have our first monthly cohort threads! I will need your help in creating these threads and managing them! Remember, the goal is to make sure that our entire community is a welcoming and inviting place!
So will monthly check-in's replace daily check-in's, or does this only apply for the Newbie Hub? Sorry for the confusion!
@Emily619
This will be in all subcommunities AND the newbue hub too!
This is unrelated to chekc-in threads. Check-in threads STAY AS IS!
Does that make sense?
@Laura
I understand now, thanks for clarifying!
This is a great idea!
Thank you @Laura for making this happen!
@Laura - I thought that we were going to let these introductions live within the existing intro spaces in subcommunities where they already exist? Why do we need to separate and have two separate introduction/icebreakers subforums - that feels redundant and confusing!
It looks like one time in your post it says we will not create duplicated subforums and elsewhere it says we will - what is the plan?
@Laura great, indeed
