To be honest it’s hard to decide a career route for many people there’s still people pondering that in there fourties. Just take your time in figuring it out.

hello mango!

how are you doing? ❤️

I remember feeling the exact same as you! it is so overwhelming and is equally more scary when others have ideas of careers. but, you do not need to make any decisions just yet! you are still so so early on in your career and will find where you fit in best at some point <3

i hope you do really well in your IGCSEs, we're always here if you need to rant or anything. what kind of things do you enjoy most? are there any careers that stand out to you?

Hello, @mangosmoothie86

I had similar thoughts as you back when I was in school too. I didn't like school because I wasn't the type of student that got good grades. Other classmates all didn't believe me one time, during a midterm, when I told them I got a bad grade. Students' understanding was that all Chinese students are smart, and get straight A's. When someone says they got a bad grade, it only meant that they didn't get about 90%. Back then though, I wasn't one of those smart ones. My bad grade was really a bad grade, like in the 60's%. Since my average was low, even after trying my best, I couldn't wait to move out of town for University. Away from home, away from the nagging of my parents.

I still had no idea what career I wanted to do back then. I didn't even finish University and I returned home, and ended up helping my parents with their business. Worked a few years with them, taking classes here and there, trying to figure out what I want to do as a career.

I'm in the middle of a career-change at the moment, so it's perfectly okay for you to not know what you want to be doing as a career. Many have career-changes multiple of times in their life. Everything depends on the situation around us, don't give yourself too much pressure with the need to choose a career. Take it one step at a time. First, focus on your upcoming exam, then all the other things will fall in place~

@mangosmoothie86 It seems that you are in a very important transition point in your life and that the decisions you make carry great importance and weight. I doubt anyone would be able to be in your exact situation without also experiencing pressure and burnout. Given your situation however, I respect that you reached out on this forum instead of dealing with everything alone. Although I am unaware of the exact details of what you are experiencing, I like to think that whatever you end up deciding, it will all work out for you someday :)
