Hey guys!

I'm not sure if I've put it in a right thread but I was kind of clueless! I wanted to ask if you have any tips on studying? I'm having such a hard time motivating myself and concentrating on work :(

Thanks!

hey aeva the best way in my opinion what i would have done is three things

1. believe in myself that i can do it ..

2. plan the ammount of studies and make a stratagyof my own.

3..make a schedule like on which date i wil do what . and if i do it accordingly i will mark that date some how that yes ive done it ..

4.listen to a lot of motivational songs ..

like one is going right now in my mind

hope you may like it

5. write in front of mycopy or where i will see it every day . that "I CAN DO IT"

and see it before studing ..

i will update u up if something else comes to my mind ..laugh

Hello there! Well i know that studying can be boring sometimes but see you can try to take 15 minute break when you study! That always works and also make sure that you don't have anything distracting like cellphone near you! Its bit hard but you can always do it :)

I'm a huge procrastinator so I have more trouble starting something than actually doing it. A tactic I've heard about is to set a deadline to start something rather than a time frame of how long you'll do something.

I like to be alone when I study at first. I can only study with others if I'm familiar with the material myself. This means isolating myself so I need to be in a place where I can just ignore everything like my phone and computer.

Taking breaks when I'm feeling worn down is good. A quick walk outside or just getting up and going somewhere else helps, especially if I'm getting restless.

Food is also a good thing to have. I like to multi-task so I normally will prepare myself snacks to eat so that I don't have to get up if I'm hungry or anything like that.

Ultimately, doing it is the hardest part. So I'll just try to make where I'm studying as inviting as possible, even if it's in a library or something. If something is keeping me from studying (i.e. anxiety), then I'll normally just write it out or talk to myself about it to get all the stress out first, then tackle it so that I can address my own concerns.

I was never a big fan of studying, so I always tried to be organized, so I could control myself. Schedules and a "to do" list arealways good. When at classes, out attention only lasts for about the first 20 minutes, so I try to apply this to my studying sessions. During the first minutes, I read all the important notes and what I highlighted on my books. After that, I like writing, as a fixationmethod, using colored pencils/pen/markers and creating schemes, so it's more dynamic, less boring. Also, I know people who can fixate things better if they say it out loud... Maybe an expressive reading?! Haha (:

I agree with thecolouredpencils -- not in amindmappingstyle, but just using highlighters and post-its. LOTS of post-its. I always print everything out and put what I need to learn in a stack then finish them off by just reading them. I'd love to do more than just read -- make notes, mindmap, other stuff -- but with law school the amount of works to read is just HUGE and it'd only be quick and efficient if I just read them (or perhaps, burn them and eat the ashes. Just kidding, LOL).

I also agree with taking breaks. I think it's also important to makedaily goals (so you can set a goal on how many hours per day you have to study, counted until you manage to finish all the materials before the exams) and if you're tend to like to study with friends, to havea study group. When I need more motivation I usually just watch related videos from Khan Academy or iTunes University orCourseraor TED videos.

Good luck with your studies,Aeva!

PS. If anyone here has ever watched the Japanese animeDoraemon--Doraemonhas some "Memory Bread" -- bread that you can place against your school notes, a page of a book, or anything else that contains data you want to memorize. Then, this bread would fully absorb all the information written on thepage, so you can eat it and put all the info in your memory LOL.

stay away from all the technology and any existant social networking site, they are all distractions, i find myself wasting time on tumblr instead of studying all the time

try planning your day so that you have time for both studying and all the things that you need to do at the same time, and set goals!! like tell yourself or write it down, that by the end of the day you will have revised this chapter of that subject and those pages of that subject and solved that past paper etc :) good luck ! x

MAKE GOOD NOTES

I always make a study guide by myself. I refer to class notes, textbooks and the internet and then right down organized notes in a separate notebook so that I can study everything from one place at the time of exam.

DURING EXAMS

In Psychology I studied in the "Memory" chapter that the more cues present... the easier it is to remember an information.

That is, don't just read the information you have to learn but add as many cues as possible. Like, writing, speaking, listening (eg. to your own recording). This will make it much easier to remember what you need to study.enlightened

Teach someone. If you teach a topic to someone, you will be able to understand and retain it much better. I often use this torture on my younger brother. Haha, ok, he doesn't really feel tortured actually. I first read out the definition or information in the bookish language and then break it down for him so that he is able to understand the meaning. And if he asks doubts and I can explain it to him, that is when I know that I have really understood the chapter. And it helps me be confident.cool

To motivate myself, I write down the marks and gradeI aim to achieve.. so I know how dedicatedlyI have to study.

And of course there are so many tips the other listeners gave to you. Best of luck for your exam. I'm sure you will ace your exams.yes

Also, I wanted to add that don't study continuously for hours because it will be hard to retain information because of the overload... I have a certain shows I watch that I never miss. So I assign a time to them, that way I have something to look forward to. And I feel refreshed after watching them. (Note: make sure there are not too many such shows... 1-2half and hour shows).laugh

Try not to cram the night. But if for some reason, that is the ONLY option, make sure you have AT LEAST 3 hours of sleep, that is, one sleep cycle. And take a shower in the morning, no matter how cold it is or how short of time you are... just run water on your body once, that will refresh you.angel

If you are awake in the night, you have exam the next day, haven't got anything done, are anxious as hell and thus can't get seem to retain any more information, SLEEP. Because waking up won't do any good, moreover, it will harm your health. Sleep for at least 3 hours and then start afresh early in the morning. You will be surprised how easier things look now.surprise

I hope these tips help you, like they help me.Best of luckyes
