Remote Learning and Concentration Struggles: Seeking Advice and Techniques to Overcome Challenges

Hello everyone,

I've been studying remotely for over a year now, while also working and trying to stay on top of my coursework. Unfortunately, I'm never able to concentrate properly, which means that my exams are fast approaching, and I'm not at all prepared. To make matters worse, the quality of my courses is extremely poor; the material is difficult to read, not at all clear, and not practical for application.

I'm really struggling to learn and develop an effective study rhythm, and I can't seem to focus on my work without getting distracted. I really need to feel calm and centred, and to find a fast and efficient learning technique that works for me. I'm willing to set up a strict routine to help me learn, but I'm completely lost as to how to do this.

To make matters worse, I suffer from certain OCD tendencies that make it very difficult for me to concentrate if something isn't perfect. For example, I can't write by hand when studying, because the irregularity of my handwriting stresses me out and takes all of my attention. I have to study on a computer, but there are distractions everywhere and my attention span is almost non-existent.

Any advice or suggestions on how to improve my study habits and concentration would be greatly appreciated!

@BerriesInBloom

Have you ever tried the pomodoro technique? It’s been the most helpful approach for me! Its about studying in intervals of 25 minutes and then taking a break for 5 minutes and repeating. It’s been so helpful for my procrastination and retention! 💜

@innateJoy9602 Yes I have already tried, but it does not help me much. But I really appreciate your help, thank you very much.

Hello.

I have a bit of OCD and perfectionism when it comes to doing my work too. In that sense, I understand how stressed you can get. When I write, it's either in all caps or in handwriting. My printing with lower cases are ugly and inconsistent.

What kind of distractions are you dealing with when you use the computer to study and take notes? Having other tabs open and surfing the net, or having social media on and browsing through the news feed? A lot of these "distractions" are something we have control over, and must be disciplined to not be distracted by them. I know Google has a free plug-in extension where it blocks all news feed from ***, for example. When you're using he computer to take notes while you study, have everything g closed and just have the document file you use to take the notes open.

Our mindset for remote learning is very important. If possible, stay focused the best you can in each study block. Maybe try and find motivation by discovering the reasons behind why you chose to study remotely (if it was an option). Also, focus on what will you make of it after completing the program.

Good luck~
