Struggling with procrastination

Hi, im new here so im kinda nervous about posting but- I need to get this out and maybe someone will understand how I feel.

Ive struggled with procrastination my entire life. Literally since getting my first kindergarten homework I have always been procrastinating. Its gotten to the point where im just so tired of it. Ive tried so many strategies and some of them work at first but- very quickly it stops working. Sometimes I feel like im sabotaging myself. Sometimes it feels like ill never get better. Like, ill always be stressing myself out and ruining everything for myself because of my procrastination. I just dont know what to do anymore.

I did a little research about self sabotage and it says it can stem from low self esteem which I really struggle with. Im hoping that maybe if I start there, even if my procrastination doesn't improve, my self esteem will.

If anyone has any other thoughts, suggestions or just comments in general they would mean a lot to me.

Thank you so much for listening

Hiya. It sounds like you need to break any big tasks down into smaller ones. Prioritise tasks and don’t forget to reward yourself once completed. You can do this! 🌹

It's not easy.

We find ways to just not do what we have to.

That's the Human side of us.

Putting things onto the long finger.

What works for me is setting aside a small time in my day to get things done.

Small and manageable chunks .

And rewarding myself afterwards with a small treat or doing something that I love.

But only when my task is complete 💕💜

Hello, Mia!

I completely relate to the procrastination since I still/and did during my college courses. Therefore, If you feel burntout never fret to take a break for yourself when needed! A little suggestion for what helped me balance me time and homework was to make a timer for a certain amount of time I wanted to study or do work for. Once times up, take that break! and come back to it when your ready again doing the same thing :)

Moreover, you are doing great! I know it can be hard but you'll complete your goals with time

Thank you for sharing this! I can really hear how exhausting this cycle feels for you and it makes a lot of sense to feel tired of trying things that don't work long term. I think it's really insightful that you've connected it with self esteem. I think thats important because often times procrastination isn't about being bad at time management or being lazy, I've found it's more about how we see ourselves, the pressure we put on, or even fear -- perhaps a fear of failure.  By starting with building up your self esteem, this sounds like a really compassionate direction and good starting point!

In my experience, I've found that sometimes breaking things into small, non intimidating steps like telling yourself you'll only work for a short amount of time, rather than trying to do everything at once. Even if you don't finish, just taking a step is still a big achievement!

❤️ Take care of yourself! ❤️

Hii mia, thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings here, I know that it can feel quite nervous to make your first post. I can see how draining it's to go through procrastination for such a long period of time especially when your strategies don't seem to be working. It can leave you feeling stuck and stressed out. I can feel that you've developed a good sense of self awareness and i really admire all your efforts put into solving it. I do agree with that link between self sabotage and self esteem, it's indeed a good place to start with. I'm really proud of you for reaching out and reflecting on yourself it shows how much you care about yourself. It's okay to take things slow and one step a time.
