Trouble studying

Hey there

Im currently in grade 11 and preparing for university entrance. Keeping aside a lot of back story the main context is this: I want to get in a uni like somewhere alone, far from home and like for an accomodation. I consider this the first step to be there for myself..

So yeah...i do good in classes but as soon as i reach my house all my energy drains. Energy drains as in like im not even able to think about opening books and like prepare to study. Other thoughts start to ocuppy my mind and sometimes my head starts to hurt. And to cope i start to daydream or talk with myself while walking and listening to music..in my house only.

And when I get tired I just go to bed with things going in my mind till i sleep. I have tried to sit for study keeping all this aside but then im not able to focus.

Uhh so how do i fix this?

Hi There.  What I could suggest is instead of walking with music inside your house- go outside. Walk around the neighborhood, even just around your house and engage with what you see- look at the people walking around or the birds flying or the squirrels running from tree to tree. Let what is around you soak in.  Then go inside and splash some cool water on your face.  This is what I do when I'm in a mental lock.  Maybe it will work for you.

Good Luck in your endeavors!

Hey, thank you for sharing this so honestly, it really paints a clear picture of what you're experiencing. It sounds like you're managing well at school, however at home it's like a switch flips and your mental energy disappears? The way you describe your mind getting crowded with thoughts, feeling drained and them slipping into daydreams/pacing with music makes a lot of sense, especially when you've got so much on your plate thinking about the future and wanting independence.

It's understandable that studying feels almost impossible when your brain is already busying exhausted. It seems like you care a lot about your goals and figuring out how to handle this part of your day differently.

You mentioned lots of thoughts swirling around in your mind, sometimes our brains keep running because we haven't 'parked' out worries/plans anywhere. What do you think is something that could help clear your mental space before attempting to study? For me I find brain dumps - writing everything on my mind in a notebook - really helpful.
