I have a drinking problem

This is mostly just a public admission to myself that I have a drinking problem so don't feel obliged to read this.

I binge drink and I do it too often, to the point of being sick and staying up to all hours. I spend too much money and time on drinking that I could be spending on other hobbies, that I wish I was spending on other hobbies. I have strong cravings for alcohol that I find didfficult to ignore. I use alcool to medicate my anxiety and help calm down after the day is over. My drinking has stopped me meeting responsibilities in the past, not often but more than once is bad enough. My drinking will damage my health in the long run. My drinking makes me feel ashamed.

These are my problems that are caused by alcohol, I need to fix them. I can fix them if I remember these problems and use them to stop me wanting that next drink.

@aitrus15

I find your post very uplifting, actually. Don't get me wrong, though - I just genuinely feel admitting that one has a problem is a huge step forward. I've waited all my life for one of my parents to admit they had a drinking problem, but it has never happened. So seeing someone who reaches out and is willing to fight addiction hell, really amazes me and makes me believe not people are monsters.

Addiction is a monster, too, and I know it's unbelievably destructive to the people affected. But it's also detrimental to co-addicts.

So, thank you for this post. Don't be afraid of seeking help, you deserve it.

All the best

@aitrus15 I've been there...more times than I can count really. I've been sober for several years now though.

Powerful move making the admission. Congratulations!

It can be a rocky road though; so if you ever want to chat please feel free to message me or let me know. We can share war stories or just shoot the breeze.

I can relate to your issue with drinking. I started sneaking drinks when I was 14 due to anxiety. I'm going to be 33 next month and I have been drinking daily, sometimes hourly for over 10 years now. I don't even enjoy it anymore as a social activity. It's just to calm the anxiety. Kudos to you for admitting that drinking has been a problem for you. That's actually a pretty big step that people should not overlook, as many people with alcohol or drug problems can't or won't admit that it's an issue.

@goodPlane9543

That is so true thad addiction is connected to denial of the problem... But so has been depression for me, oddly enough.

Respect for opening up, I hope you'll achieve all your goals.
