Can't Sleep
Usually I would just smoke or drink until I fall asleep on nights like this, but I'm rippin my bandaid off and telling myself I don't need that stuff to help me sleep.
I'm tired. Hopefully I can sleep soon. Le sigh.

Did you get any sleep? 🤗🤗💚

Thanks!! Not until after midnight, but better than other nights. Working on regulation my sleep patterns and I know it will take time.

My pleasure 💜

Of course you can’t sleep right now! You’re breaking a pattern of abusing yourself with smoking or drinking. Proud of you right here.
Unfortunately, breaking a pattern or cycle can cause these sorts of effects.
What I did was to install black out curtains. I stopped drinking any fluids (water, tea, anything) for three hours prior to when I wanted to sleep, to sleep better without having to awaken to use the bathroom.
I used an aromatherapy diffuser which emitted some nice fragrances into the environment.
I turned off all my devices and placed them far away from me for a couple of hours prior to nodding off.
Sometimes, I would play some boring stories that are available on some apps such as “calm” which absolutely were so boring that they put me to sleep.
During the day, I would try to engage in some really strenuous physical activity such as digging the garden, building something, doing something with my hands that required physical effort, and that helped me rest more deeply.
I would count every day and proclaim it! One day at a time. Proud of you for every little step you take in the right direction, towards health, wellness, and breaking the cycle cast upon you through no fault of your own.

Wow, this was an incredible response. Thank you so much for all of this. Great ideas and tools for me. I even had the thought today, like ugh things kinda went sideways on my morning because of a meeting someone had to postpone so I didn't get to go to the gym. But I was like okay yes th gym, but what is it ABOUT the gym that's upsetting me. And it was the workout, to release my energy. I said girl, let's just workout via YouTube today and let Chloe Ting wreck you LOL so I'm gonna. Your right about making the setting right, I was doing that, but I stopped when my SO visited, but I'm gonna keep my routine more, even when he's visiting. I'm gonna go make notes from your comment and marinate on this all more. Just set an alarm to put my phone away at 830pm.

I think it’s incredibly insightful of you that you asked yourself WHY gym being derailed made you feel the way you did and then you came up with a brilliant solution for yourself, to find Chloe Ting! Some days may be better than others, but I have always found that I can handle anything that happens better if I can have a full night of restful sleep.
Good luck to you and keep us posted on what works for you!

YAY! Congratulations on taking this step - making the decision to go for it can often be the biggest hurdle to overcome.
Having to adjust from our "norm" of having the crutch of a substance to lean on to help us do what are considered regular every day tasks to truly experiencing it all, feeling all the things, etc. can be especially daunting. It can be helpful to try to fill some of the time with other activities that will help distract your mind and help you work towards your goal. For example, when it comes to sleep, trying to go for a walk shortly before you would like to go to bed can be helpful. :) Remember that there will be ups and downs, bumps, and all of the things along your journey - but you are worth it. Cheering you on so hard!
