How do you spend time with God
Hi guys, as it's summer time and I don't have school right now, I have some extra time on my hands. I would love to spend some extra time getting closer to God, but I would love to hear how others spend time with God, and possibly steal some of those ideas myself. I would be especially appreciative of any ideas that are good for people like me who get distracted crazy easily 🤣.
@CoffeeLovingRoyal
Listen to your audio Bible while drawing or working with your hands <3
@jesusredeemedme2425
I love that idea, I'll have to try it. Thank you so much!
You’re welcome! Also, listening to worship music while doing the same <3
@CoffeeLovingRoyal
I also battle distractions sometimes. You're not alone... we are many :)
One thing that help is to seperate myself... Lock the door of my room or have my quiet time when others are asleep.
Also, depending on my environment. I realize observing the wonders of creation while I pray really helps. It could be a lake, mountain, the skies, or even the stars. It just makes me feel connected to the creator himself in a way.
For some people, taking a walk as they pray helps.
And yessss.... One thing that also helps me is to remind myself of the fact that 'God is'. And actually approach my time with him with that mindset. So I try to be natural in my conversations with him in prayers and also engage him as I study the Bible (this also makes me expectant to hear him speak to my heart). At times, in worship I just visualize myself before him as I sing.
@CoffeeLovingRoyal To say briefly I talked a bit About this wit my spiritual director(I am in a religious order-Da 3rd order of St. Francis) an it was mentioned just simply sayin’ da words God help me is in itself a prayer. So when I find I am neglecting him I will say these words as well as say a prayer for da souls in purgatory. When not distracted I still do da above but also da rosary. When upset or just wanna Chat to him I write to him in my journal app now included on da iPhone. At first I had trouble chattin’ to him but now words flow easy. Another thing I like doing mass or no mass just going in to church an sitting quietly. I dont necessarily say any prayers when I enter da church I just go in as I am knowing I am home wit him an he accepts me just as I am. I get an overwhelming amount of peace so much so my shoulders an heart feel so more free than it was when I first walked in. I have health issues as well an wit dat as strange as it may sound at first for years I didnt appreciate bein’ sick an wondered why did he allow bad things to happen an I realized he doesnt Wanna bad things to happen to any one of us but he allows things to go as dey have to teach us so we c’n really get to know him crazy seem but in turn any illnesses an bad things dat have happened to me I came to a place where'd I see ‘em as things to get down on but rather I see ‘em as bein’ gifts from God. Then I c’n teach others dat life does not end just ‘cause bad things have happened but to teach dat we all c’n have a life an still be happy despite those things dat happen to us an helps me to handle da bad things thats happened. Illnesses are more easier to bare as much pain has decreased. Every day situations dat has occurred become more clearer an understand ‘em more there by stopping me from getting upset, worrying or angry from dat situation so its fair to say he only helped me to become stronger mentally an physically an to love an care more for others.
@CoffeeLovingRoyal I feel that there is never a time not spent with God since He is always with us. One thing that may help if you become distracted is the use of prayer beads. Holding them, feeling each bead really allows you to concentrate on your prayer of dialogue with God. I like to chit chat with Him most of the day. He's truly the best listener of all time.
I go to mass on Sundays an during da week when possible, I pray da rosary an write to Him in my journal app.
@eternalHero77 Attending Mass is a beautiful way to spend time with God and prayer beads are as well. I also attend Solemn High Mass every Sunday and try to attend Low Mass on Wednesday's. I'm Episcopalian (Anglo-Catholic) which is similar in a lot of ways. Peace be with you.
@SoulThought Same to you. Peace
I regularly attend Mass and serve at the alter monthly. Prayer beads are great. With Anglican Prayer Beads (Anglican rosary) it is very easy to, and encouraged, to create your own personal prayers for the beads. The things is no matter where you are or what you are doing you can always be spending time with God since He is with you 100% of the time.
@SoulThought That's really cool, I had never really heard of anglican prayer beads. I love getting to serve at my church. It is such a blessing. Serving is in theory technically for others, but it is always such a major blessing and bright spot in my week!
@SoulThought Totally agree with you
