Sensory Grounding using Smell
Hello beautiful community, how is everyone doing today? ❤️
One way we can signal to our brain to calm down is by making a sensory toolkit. A sensory toolkit is a collection of physical objects that can help you to get grounded and calm yourself down. Smell is very powerful and closely associated with emotion and memory. It can help to have a collection box with different things to calm down when you feel anxious or panicky.
What kind of scents do you love or feel that they are really calming for you?
Do you have a special autumn (fall) scent?
What kind of scents do you love or feel that they are really calming for you?
I burn incense and essential oils every day. My favorites are
For incense: White Sage, Palo Santo, Om, Lavender, Lilac
For essential oils: Mint (peppermint or spearmint), Lavender, Eucalyptus, Pine, Clary Sage, Rosemary, Jasmine... some others.
White sage gives me a sense of comfort and protection when I burn it when I pray or do card readings for myself. Palo Santo too when I want to change it up a little. Sometimes I want something pungent like eucalyptus or pine, other times something more sweet like lilac or jasmine. They definitely help me through my day, especially the tough ones.

Nice that you find comfort in essential oils and incense. I really like the scents you mentioned (there are a few I do not know though like Palo Santo and Om - what kind of scent do they have, can you describe?)
@amiablePeace77
Palo Santo is another incense that Native Americans use for cleansing and other ceremonies. Om is one I found in an assortment that I bought to try some variety. Hard to describe the scents... it's more on the line of white sage. Not real sweet but pleasant.
while we are on the topic of Smell, I thought I would mention a brain child I had when I was 8 years old that never came to fruition in the technological age:
Smell-ovision (a television which provides scents)
Why do you think that never took off? lol
The smell of apples being made into apple cider with the spices of cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and mace.
