Sensory Grounding using Smell
Hello beautiful community, how is everyone doing today? ❤️
One way we can signal to our brain to calm down is by making a sensory toolkit. A sensory toolkit is a collection of physical objects that can help you to get grounded and calm yourself down. Smell is very powerful and closely associated with emotion and memory. It can help to have a collection box with different things to calm down when you feel anxious or panicky.
What kind of scents do you love or feel that they are really calming for you?
Do you have a special autumn (fall) scent?
I love the smell of Christmas scents! Gingerbread, Vanilla, Mixed Spice, ect… These scents really feel like home to me and they make me feel better on extremely rough days.
The scent of Pumpkin and Baked Goods are my favorite Autumn scents.
@CalmLemon5288 for a lovely vanilla smell put a frying pan on the stovetop with low heat and put 1 drop of vanilla on the warm pan. Quickly smells like cookies baking!

Lemon leaves 🍂

It's amazing what kind of smells can make one feel calm depending on the association with them. Lemon leaves are amazing, do you use them sometimes for cooking?
I agree, dear. Frangrance selection has got a lot to do with its association with some sorta things. For instance, in my case - nope, I don't use it while cooking but I love citrus fruits in general so I love lemons a lot. 🍋
We have lemon plants in our kitchen. I have used its leave as a bookmark several times. Which fragrance do you admire the most and why? ❤ @amiablePeace77

Using the lemon leaves as bookmarks is an amazing idea, never thought about it! My favorite scents are citrus and musk.
@amiablePeace77
Oh, wow!
My dad loves musk too

Hello everyone
I love the smell of rosemary and it's actually known to really boost memory according to some studies. It is also very calming for me too. Such a great thread and very grounding to go through and imagine all of the scents that you have all shared.
@LisaMeighanMBPsS
Hi Lisa, always nice to see you in the forum 😊. I love rosemary too, it's an amazing herb in many ways. Thank you so much for sharing about the memory boosting effect of rosemary!
@amiablePeace77
Nice to see you too, Ami! :) Yes, I love it! I'm glad you do too!
I love the smell after the rain. I also love the smell of the jasmine flower. They are just so amazing.

I find that the scent of jasmine flowers have a very calming effect, after rain everything smells so fresh - two beautiful scents
@amiablePeace77 indeed nothing better than that to improve your mood.

I was trying to get the essential oil again, really like it but seems I need to look in other shops, not where I usually buy. I find ylang ylang is also a nice oil, very calming, a little heavy though.
