The Can't Get Started In The Morning Feeling
Have you ever experienced the feeling in the morning after waking up that you just want to stay in your bed, that you feel you do not have the energy to do anything and ask yourself “Is it normal to wake up feeling tired? Is there something else I can do to energize myself?”
Feeling tired when you wake up is normal. It’s a natural part of the body’s process of transitioning out of sleep and it is called sleep inertia. and generally lasts from 15 to 60 minutes. What is not normal is feeling tired throughout the day, feeling sluggish and maybe sad about the fact that you’ve got a whole day of work ahead of you.
Do you sometimes or often feel tired after waking up and feel like staying in bed? How long does that last?
Many people experience fluctuations in mood throughout the day, and, according to the American Psychological Association (APA), it is not unusual to have a low mood on waking up.
I struggled for a long time with getting up in the morning so I tried to find something that makes it easier. Here I am sharing some of my ways to get energized after waking up, many of which have been proven scientifically to be helpful.
Put on some music, happy music or anything that you find energizing
Drink a glass of water, remember, after 8 hours of sleep your body is dehydrated and that makes it difficult to think clearly
Open your curtains, get outside even if it’s only for a few minutes and enjoy some sunlight. Sunlight helps us to wake up by reducing the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone.
Having a spray bottle with water next to your bed to spray yourself after waking up can also be very helpful
Take a cold shower The cold water sends many electrical impulses to your brain. They jolt your system to increase alertness, clarity, and energy levels. Endorphins, which are sometimes called happiness hormones, are also released. This effect leads to feelings of well-being and optimism.
What helps you to wake up in the morning and get into a better mood?
Answer: Ultimately by practising good sleep and waking up hygiene.
Although sometimes, whatever we do doesn’t seem to work. Not being able to get going every morning can severely impact every aspect of your life and make it hard for you to function.
It does not mean you are lazy, there might be underlying medical issues that are to blame for your extreme fatigue and inability to get started in the morning, like chronic fatigue syndrome or sleep apnea. It could also be mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety or PTSD. Untreated, these conditions can worsen over time and impact one’s life to a great extent.
If you have serious, long-term problems with getting out of bed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if you feel they are related to excessive worrying or any other mental challenges.

@amiablePeace77 I can relate to being tried even after I just woke up, it's probably because I usually stay up till 2am each night though, but this post makes me realize that it's probably also my depression that is keeping me in my bed till noon too, since I have trouble convising myself it's worth starting the day. I will try some of those techniques you mentioned and I'll definitely bring it up with my therapist. I appreciate this post 💜

I feel tired every single day when i wake up. And i have never felt fully rested after sleeping a full nights sleep. I always feel tired throughout the day, everyday of my life.
@amiablePeace77 Do you sometimes or often feel tired after waking up and feel like staying in bed? How long does that last? Yes, all winter!
Spring is a lot better. I do yoga stretching in bed and start focusing on being aware of this moment rather than lost in dreams and thoughts.

Yes. If there is a challenge at work it motivates me. But the opposite happens too. I have so many different medical conditions and it doesn’t help that they all include tiredness as a symptom. I finally did give a morning to me end oh did it help to not just fight through. It allowed me to decide to take the step toward mental help.
