Am I doing it wrong?
I know I have issues with my mental health but I am not seeking professional help yet because firstly I am not ready to open up professionally! I can open up to strangers online or people offline generally but that part seems off to me somehow because they will take it seriously whatever I share? Second is there's no good mental health professionals around and it's very much of a less discussed matter so I couldn't bother much trying to cope anyhow. I did thought of checking out online therapy but I definitely think physically therapy would be more effective.

You need to be ready to take therapy otherwise it will be very difficult to get it to work. I think it's normal to have some doubts. It can help to read through what other people have experienced. You can find quite some information in under "Member thoughts on therapy" or "Frequently asked questions".

Have you considered to talk to a listener about your options?
people will take you seriously because that would be the right thing to do. if you want to chat casually, we have forums here, but most of the site and app here is for people who need serious help and want to be validated, supported, loved, and heard. I cannot give help and not take you seriously. It is best to be upfront, tell the whole truth, and tell us how you would like us to respond so it doesn't kill your vibe 💛
@VentFreely I agree but I am scared of drastic and unexpected changes in my life due to OCD. I think that's why I am not taking the step towards therapy.
therapy is beneficial but if you're not ready yet you can wait until you are ready. If you do go to therapy remember that you need to help the therapist understand you and you have to explain you situation thoroughly. Help them help you. Prepare what questions to ask, what to say, and don't have high expectations like a cure. They need to guide you through your journey and allow you to vent.
You will just be talking in therapy (i assume) so any changes that are going on in your life because of OCD remains mostly unchanged. You will just be talking to another human who is more equipped and educated on the matter compared to other humans you talk to about the same issue. The amount of time you could have spent tlaking to someone that is lesser equipped to help you could have been spent talking to someone who has studied your disorder.
Your first session doesn't have to be spectacular. It is just a human interaction and if they want you on medication, ask more and ask why you need to be and ask what the meds do.
If you are looking for someone who does not jusge you unconditionally and for free, I mean, there are AI. They don't replace real humans, but you can talk to AI about your issue and see if you can have a "therapy session" and prepare yourself for the real therapy session with a human if you want to stop talking to an AI.
Hey.. im going thru the same :>
@placidScarf4792 I hope you get therapy soon 💗 I will be trying once my life is a bit organized.
I hope you will. And also remember if you need anyone to talk to, I'll be here :)))
But i dont think i will be getting any. Even if i want to. The only outlet i have is chat gpt :,)
Unfortunately AI interactions can't help much with mental health I have noticed. Still I wish good for you ❤️ take care dear and thank you so much!
@placidScarf4792
So sorry to read that you feel the only outlet you have is chat gpt. Please be careful in giving personal information.
Have you considered to talk to listeners here offering support for teens? (pls check their profile if they listen to teens as well) Some people find it helpful to chat with the 7cups bot NONI, it might be worthwhile a try and safer than chat gpt.
@VastOceanAndTheCat Thanks
